Chapter 20

Yamaguchi's POV

"Hey, you alright there?" I startled, looking over at one of the guys in the group. I nodded and bowed my head in apology.

"Of course..! I'm sorry it's just that I'm not used to going outside of the gates normally I-"

"Hey hey it's alright..! I was just checking." He said with a small chuckle. I smiled slightly and nodded while walking and looking around. This group was kind of big, so it should be safe. It was a change of pace and scenery, that's for sure. 

It wasn't as scary as I had thought. But also, I know Daichi had put me with a larger group and on a path that was checked daily since it was close to the settlement walls. So this is what Tsukki would do? I bet he'd do good in those paired or even single patrols.

Even though I wasn't able to really help handle the couple of infected we came across, I was happy I could prove myself useful when we reached a rougher part of the trail. A few guys got some scrapes or surprise attacked by infected.

No one got bites luckily. Someone did get a bad enough cut though to need some stitches when we'd get back. So I wrapped his hand up tight in a cloth so it'd hold until we could get back home. Even though I don't think that I'm gonna be doing patrols normally as my job here, it was good to know what to do.

But I was glad when we returned home where I knew it was safer. Those who were hurt went to the medic building with me. While I was taking care of that guy who needed the stitches in his hand, he smiled slightly at me.

"You were new to that, huh?"

"What?"

"Never been on a patrol?"

"Oh, no. Normally I'm here."

"So what were ya doing out on a patrol, huh cutie?" He asked, making me blush slightly.

"O-oh.. Well, I lost someone important to me during a patrol.. so, I knew just how dangerous it could be. And I wanted to go to help how I could."

"Mm, well you certain helped me. What's your name?"

"Yamaguchi.."

"Mine's Terushima."

"Nice to meet you.." I said with a small smile. I finished stitching his hand up and wrapped it again so the stitches wouldn't get cut or damaged. He checked his hand before nodding in approval and getting up.

"Thanks cutie. I'll see you around." He said with a wink before walking out of the medic building. I watching him go before quietly turning to clean up. Hinata walked over and nudged my side.

"Hey, who was that?"

"Huh? Oh, his name is Terushima."

"Oh. He must be new. I haven't met him before. He seems to like you." Hinata said with a giggle. I smiled faintly with a shrug.

"Maybe. He seems nice enough." I mumbled, Hinata nodding and helping me clean up before bounding off. I smiled slightly and shook my head before heading off home. I got used to things being quiet around here. I wasn't used to how lonely it felt though.

Daichi said that he could assign someone to stay with me since almost everyone here had to share rooms anyway. I didn't mind if someone else were to stay here. Or if I had to stay alone. Huh, if Terushima was new.. would he get assigned here?? Probably. 

I shrugged it off and quietly cleaned up and looked through a book Daichi had given me to study. It was a copy of notes about all the infected and such that the patrols come across. It was a bit creepy looking at these pictures and the notes on them, but the more you know I suppose.

Right as I was getting ready for bed, there was a knock. I didn't even get a chance to get up to answer the door when Terushima burst in.

"Eh- hello, Terushima.. what are you doing here..???"

"Coming to see where I'm gonna be staying. Looks like we're roommates now." He said with a smile. I nodded with a tiny smile as he looked around. Well, at least it wouldn't exactly be quiet around here anymore.

"I see. Well, obviously, make yourself at home." I said, sitting on the bed tiredly. Terushima walked over and sat next to me, leaning closer.

"Oh I will." He said as I slightly leaned back. He laughed and leaned away as well.

"So. Tell me. Who was this person you lost on a patrol?"

"Oh.. He was my boyfriend."

"Boyfriend huh? Well, sorry he's gone."

"It's okay... it happened a really long time ago it seems. Its been over a month at least."

"Ah. I see. Know how he died?"

"He was bitten..." I mumbled quietly, Terushima nodding. He placed a hand on my shoulder and leaned forward to look at me.

"Hey, you alright?"

"Yeah.. I just miss him still. I know, I should move past it huh?"

"Well it's normal to miss your boyfriend. Sorry about what happened to him."

"Thanks. So.. how long have you been here?"

"I was picked up by a patrol just yesterday. Don't worry, I'm clean." He said, putting his hands up like he was surrendering. I laughed slightly and nodded.

"I would hope so."

"Nah, I wouldn't come in here infected and endanger you like that cutie. Nice freckles by the way." He said, making me giggle slightly and blush again.

"Oh, thanks.. I um.. am glad you like them!" I said, Terushima nodding. He and I sat together a little bit longer to talk. If we were going to stay together, may as well get to know each other. He wasn't so bad. Guess he enjoyed the danger of the patrols. I didn't mind todays, but I think I liked staying in the walls a little bit better.  

Finally we settled on going to bed. Terushima had another patrol to go on in the morning. Daichi said I could join if I wanted to, but I told him I think I'd rather go back to what I was doing.

Just as I was drifting off, I felt Terushima move closer to me. It felt strange to share a bed with someone else that wasn't Tsukki. But this was the only bed, so I'd need to get used to it. So, I ignored the feeling and went to sleep.
