It still did take Effie about a week to finally brave it and speak to Snape, but she decided it was now or never, she actually did miss being able to just stroll down to his office and have a chat, and Effie was looking at this whole situation in a brand new light now, she had an uncle which meant she had some sort of family.
She knocked the door of Snape's office, but where was no reply. He couldn't have been anywhere else, he's always in his office before and after classes, he doesn't particularly mingle with the other professors.
Despite the no answer, Effie slowly crept into the office anyway, to find a clearly exhausted Snape, sat up at his desk, head leaning on one hand and his eyes were definitely shut, he had mountains of paper work from one end of his desk to the other.
Effie slowly walked towards the desk, before nudging Snape gently on the shoulder to wake him up. His eyes shot open and he let out a bit of a grunt, as if Effie had just woken him up mid snore.
"E— Elizabeth what can I do for you?" He asked, looking embarrassed that he'd just been caught having a cheeky nap.
"I— Uh— I just wanted to say sorry, for the other week. I shouldn't have acted like a spoiled brat it was just a bit of a—"
"A shock, I know. I would like to apologise too." Snape declared. "I had no right to say any the things I said about you and Malfoy, it's not my place." He barely made eye contact with her, something told her Snape didn't do apologies very often.
Effie glanced down at the desk covered in paperwork, noticing that Snape wasn't actually reading anything to do with school, her eyes widened at the mention of the name 'Rosalie Burke' on one of the pieces of parchment on the desk, which Effie now realised had been a cut out from an old daily prophet. Looking further along the desk it was filled with them, all from different newspapers, some even from other countries.
"What's all this?" Effie asked blankly.
"Since our little tiff last week, I've been trying to find a way to prove to you that I did try to find you. And then I remembered I had all these sealed away from when your mother passed away. Every article has one thing in common. There's never a location mentioned, I tried everything there was nothing I could—"
"Severus" Effie interrupted sincerely, grabbing his hand from across the desk. "I know. I believe you. I'm sorry I ever doubted you."
"I'm sorry I couldn't save you from that man." His head was facing the ground, an ashamed look across his face.
"You did the next best thing, you gave me a new life, and I couldn't thank you enough for that. So if it's okay. Could I come back and stay with you for summer?" She asked shyly, as if Snape even had a clue that she said she wasn't.
"You were coming home with me whether you liked it or not." He said, slightly smirking at the girl.
"Thanks Severus, I better be going I don't want to be late. I'll see you at dinner." She turned to walk towards the large wooden door.
"Oh and Elizabeth?" He called from behind her. "Do inform Mr Malfoy that I will be keeping an exceptionally close eye on him from now on."
"Oh trust me I will." She laughed as she walked out of the large office before heading to her class.
When she arrived at the busy transfiguration classroom, she walked over and sat at the Slytherin table between Malfoy and Goyle, as it was the only seat left, Malfoy shot her a mischievous grin from beside her.
They were something, but they didn't quite know what yet. They were trying to keep it quiet, so right now none of their friends knew, except Pansy of course, who wouldn't leave Effie alone until she told her what had happened.
