Fifth year was coming to an end, and what a year it had been. Effie had passed all her examinations, despite missing out on a lot of classes throughout the year she caught up in the end.
She still had her little ongoing feud with Malfoy, even more so now that he messed Pansy about after a week of them dating— typical. She couldn't say she never saw it coming, it was Malfoy, he was never satisfied and it just proved that the only reason he was with Pansy was to make Effie jealous and when that didn't work, he kicked Pansy to the side.
As sad as it sounds this did make Effie quite relieved, but at the same time she was still disgusted that he could do that to her friend, but it was months ago now and Pansy couldn't care less, she'd moved on with someone more to her taste, a Slytherin boy in the year above named Theo and to be fair they were a very cute couple.
This summer was going to be very different, Snape had agreed to let Effie stay at the Parkinson's for the summer, instead of lying saying she had to go to camp, it was going to be perfect.
It was the morning of the first day of the summer holidays, and everyone was eager to get on the train to get home, Effie was nothing short of excited, but before she left for the train station she decided to take a trip down to see Snape before she left.
"Come in Elizabeth." She heard from behind the door as she knocked.
"How did you know that was me?" She asked curiously.
"You've lived with me for almost three years now, I know that knock." He smiled faintly.
"Well I just thought I'd come and say bye, before I go. So— Uh— bye." She muttered awkwardly waving her hand.
"Do try and behave yourself young lady, remember I know people everywhere." He looked down at her with serious eyes.
"I don't doubt that Severus. Do try and not miss me too much while I'm gone, I know how lonely that place can get." She joked, but Snape's face didn't move, it was almost as if he was sad to see her go, and it made her sad to think of him all alone in that mansion for six long weeks. It gave her a sudden change of heart. "Actually, I forgot to say. I've been thinking, you wouldn't mind if I spent like— half the summer at Pansy's and then came home for the rest? I get a bit homesick sometimes." She asked, it wasn't a planned plan, but it seemed to make the mans face brighten as soon as he heard it.
"I mean—if you wanted to do that, I'm sure that would be fine. I'm sure Betty would like that." He replied, trying to hide the happiness in his tone.
Betty, of course Betty would like that, how typically manly, couldn't admit that he actually liked spending time with her.
"Well I better go then, I'll end up missing the train, I'll see you when I get home. Remember— be nice to Betty for me." She asked sincerely.
"Don't tell anyone but that little elf is growing on me, now go. I'll see you when your back." He smiled.
Effie had a sudden impulse, before she turned to walk out the door, she flew forward and wrapped both her arms around Snape's torso and squeezing him in a tight hug before very quickly letting go, it was an awkward moment, their first ever hug, but it was nice.
Effie stepped back and gave him an awkward nod, "bye."

The train journey was long to say the least, but it was so much less stomach churning that apparating back and forth.
Every compartment was full so the girls ended up having to share with Malfoy, Blaise, Crabbe and Goyle, but Effie didn't let Malfoy ruin her journey, in fact he didn't even try. They just shot each other glances every so often, other than that Effie just sat back and took in the beautiful views of the country side out the window.
