When they arrived at Snape's office later that day, Effie was eager to speak to him, she truly believed that the plan she had would work, and possibly speed up the process.
They sat down at the other end of Snape's desk, no one said a word for a moment as Snape was still sitting marking papers with utter concentration on his face.
"So— what did you want to speak about Elizabeth?" He asked while placing his quill neatly next to the pile of paper on his desk.
"This project that you've given us in potions— can it be any potion, like any? With the exception of the draught of living death potion." She asked confidently.
"I should think so, the guidelines of the project only forbid the one." He answered, no tone to his voice as usual. "What are you getting at Elizabeth?"
"So if I were to chose for instance— veritiserum, that would be okay?" She raised an eyebrow, earning confused looks from both Draco and Severus.
"How is this going to help with your task, may I ask?"
"Well, if I'm assuming correctly, there will be a part of the project that will require us to make and test the potion? Am I right?" She crossed her arms.
"You are correct." He shot her a subtle smirk, rolling his eyes. This girl had lived with him far too long, she has grown to have an answer for everything.
"Well if Harry and I chose veritiserum for our project that means that one or both of us will have to try it—"
"Yes but there is no guarantee that the serum you make will even work." He interrupted.
"That's where you would come in— I'm pretty sure you have some veritiserum lying about. I think it would be easy enough to switch them before putting ours in a vial. And if you can make it strong enough, he won't remember even answering any questions." She explained.
Snape stayed silent for a moment, a look of concentration crossed his face as he thought through what Effie had just said.
"Severus. This is my only opportunity to get everything out of Harry that I have to. It's taking its time getting in with him and his friends. But with this, I could get all the information I need, and you would be there too?" She pleaded.
"I would?" He questioned furrowing his eyebrows.
"Well I don't think Harry is going to voluntarily take the potion, so I think I'm going to need to take it too— but we can have it all planned out. Write down some stupid questions but when he's actually under the influence of the potion, I can ask the important questions, like what he's up to. It'll make it seem more believable if a teacher is there to sit in." The words rolled off her tongue.
She had spent quite a while thinking about this, in her head it made sense and it might have just been the only way to find out what she needed.
"Your sure about this? Because if this goes wrong Effie then god knows what will happen." Draco interrupted the conversation between the pair.
"I'm more than sure. This is the only way, and I'd appreciate you twos support if that's not too much to ask." She spat, getting a little annoyed that no one seemed to have faith in her.
"Very well." Snape announced. "Instead of the pairs choosing their desired potion. On Monday morning I will announce that I will be choosing the potions. That way there will be no problem getting Harry to agree."
Effie nodded, grateful that Snape was actually willing to help, it would have made it a lot easier other than Effie trying to convince Harry and seem too keen.
