It was only about four days until it was time to return to Hogwarts, Effie had practically spent her full summer at Malfoy Manor— not that she was complaining about that. Having Draco by her side was all she needed to keep her happy, although she did miss her friends a lot.
When she woke this morning, Draco was no where to be seen, the bed was empty and his side was cold, indicating that he'd been gone for a while, Effie lay on her back and let out a sigh of disappointment, she loved nothing more than waking up in the morning and snuggling into his chest.
She lay on the bed for about ten minutes, taking in the summer air through the cracked open window. Just then the bedroom door opened, revealing Draco with a beaming smile on his face, holding a stack of pancakes with a tiny candle on top.
"Happy birthday, my beautiful girl." He chanted, causing her cheeks to fill up with heat, she had completely forgotten what day it was, with everything that was going on, how could you blame her?
She blew out the candle on top of the pancakes and started to eat her breakfast in bed, Draco sat contently watching the love of his life.
"Thank you, I actually forgot it was my birthday." She giggled, setting her plate to the side and wiping her lips.
"Well I could never forget your birthday." He winked. "I have a present for you— Close your eyes." He demanded, making sure her eyes were tightly closed as he walked to the other side of the room.
She heard one of the drawers open and then close again, and then his footsteps started to near her again.
"Open." He whispered.
Her eyes flickered open to see Draco kneeling on the floor in front of her, her heart skipped a beat when she saw the tiny black velvet box in his hands.
"Draco. I—"
"Just listen for a second." He interrupted. "I know what this looks like, but just listen." He opened the box, revealing this beautiful silver ring in the shape of a snake, almost matching the ring he always wore on his hand, the snakes head was a stunning emerald diamond.
"I know it looks like I'm proposing right now and believe me, I wish I was. But I know we're too young." He rolled his eyes. "This ring, is a promise— a promise that one day, there will be a real engagement ring on that finger. I love you Effie, and I couldn't imagine spending my life with anyone else. So will you let me promise you that one day you will let me make you my wife?" He looked at her with pure love in his eyes, waiting for her to say something.
For a moment, she stayed silent, she was overwhelmed. Draco had never been this soppy, it was so new to her. She didn't know how to react, the butterflies were taking over her stomach at this point. All she done was lunge forward and kiss him passionately on the lips.
"I can't wait to be your wife one day, Draco Malfoy." She whispered as she pulled away from the kiss.
He took the ring out of the box and placed it on her wedding finger but on the other hand, so no bad luck. Before he placed it on her finger Effie caught glimpse of a small word engraved into the back of the ring, when she took a closer look, her heart melted at the word 'forever'. A small smile danced across her lips.
"Now. Birthday girl. I have some things planned for you today. So get showered, get ready, and meet me downstairs." He went to leave the room. "Oh— and wear something nice."
Her heart was pounding ferociously in her chest, she was so excited, this is the first birthday she's ever had where she actually has someone amazing to spent it with. So today was going to be brilliant.
