Today was the day. It was the final day of the project, it was time to test the Vertitaserum.
Effie didn't sleep the whole night, it was like being a child on Christmas Eve, knowing that when you woke up in the morning you'd have all your presents wrapped up under the tree, except this was definitely not as exciting.
All that was on her mind was if this worked, her life could start again, she was sick of living on hold, only doing things to please the Dark Lord, enough was enough, she was only seventeen and had a whole life to live, there was not a chance she was letting him take it away from her.
Potions was the final class of the day today, which made the day slowly drag in, it felt as if she had been in classes for hours and hours on end but it was only lunchtime.
She kept glaring over to the Gryffindor table at Harry, laughing away with his friends, she should have felt bad but she didn't, even after the amount of time she had spent with Harry the past week subtly fake flirting with him to keep up with her little act, she didn't feel bad at all.
"Everything alright Eff?" Daphne snapped her out of her daydream. "You look like your plotting a murder."
If only you knew Daphne— if only you knew.
"Fine, I'm just nervous for the potions project." She wasn't particularly lying, she was more nervous that it wouldn't work, she was nervous that she wouldn't get the answers out of Harry that she needed to break free from the Dark Lord .
She couldn't deal with another bad encounter with Voldemort, he had tortured her enough— mentally and physically.
"I'm pretty sure your going to ace the project." Pansy butted in. "You and Potter have been spending enough time together." She winked.
"Trust me, it's been tough. Thank god it's all over after today." Effie sighed, not lying this time.
After lunch she made her way to transfiguration, she sat silently through the lesson in a daze, the minutes were passing by so slowly, her stomach was starting to twist and turn as the time grew closer to make her way to potions.
She picked up her bag and books and sped towards the potions classroom as soon as she heard the ringing of the school bell, taking her seat eagerly before Harry arrived. Everyone's cauldrons with their potions were already sitting on their desks.
Effie subtly had sure she had everything she needed, shoving the folded up price of parchment with her intended questions written on in her robes.
Harry arrived not long after, taking his seat and shooting Effie a caring smile, she smiled back but on the inside she was giving him a sour look.
Maybe after this she could take up a role in acting, she thought to herself. Sometimes it scared her— how good she actually was at lying.
"Okay class— today is the final day of your project. And it will be the day we test them out." Snape clapped his hands together. "So when I call your names, you and your partner will come next door with me and we will evaluate the potion."
Effie took a deep breath, the nerves were slowly but surely taking over her full body.
"You ready?" Harry joked from beside her, if only he had an idea what was about to happen.
"More ready than I'll ever be." She raised her brows and laughed.
She sat silently after that, scribbling things down in her notepad until the dreaded time came. Snape walked back into the class after about four of five pairs had already been and tested their potions.
