The year is 1993.
Heroin addict Layne Staley of Seattle rock band Alice In Chains has just had the fear of God put into him following a bandmate's overdose.
When faced with a simple decision, the butterfly effect comes into play...
*this is important info for tomorrow's chapter... ❤️ bear with me!! ❤️
My Thoughts On Metallica
First off...
Great band! I grew up listening to them. Big part of my childhood. I always loved them. Their music is beautiful- if you're a rock/metalhead like me, that is 😅
However... I hate what Metallica did to Layne.
Sure, they're good with AIC now, and they've always been friends with Jerry... but... oh, man... just watch 💙

These two videos show Metallica's lead singer, James Hetfield, and their drummer, Lars Ulrich (both Jerry's friends), making fun of Layne for his stay in rehab at the time. You see, AIC was supposed to tour with Metallica, but had to cancel the day before because of Layne's addiction. He was going through personal hell, and yet Metallica had the audacity to play and sing a mockery of AIC's signature song 'Man In The Box' while pretending to shoot up at the same time, with James saying, "I can't work! I can't tour!"
In the first video, someone actually throws a shoe at James to protest. In both videos, people boo them.
Honestly, I took a loooooong hiatus from this band after I saw these videos. You should never make fun or belittle someone for an addiction... just NEVER. It is a disease to be addicted to something. It is very very sad and hard for the person and their loved ones to go through it. Metallica never should have done this. Just horrible...
Ironically, James 'recently' had to cancel a tour to go into rehab himself.

And he asked his fans to respect his privacy... Layne deserved privacy and respect too, James 😅
And then during the 1996 Alice In Chains MTV unplugged show, Metallica sat in the front row. Layne was visibly so nervous to have them there, and it didn't help that Metallica kept yelling things at him like "play the fucking song!" or "fuck you!"
Apparently Metallica dedicated or wrote their 'Death Magnetic' album to/for Layne... but honestly, I think they just did that album out of guilt for the way they treated Layne throughout his life. They certainly didn't help matters in making him feel like shit for his addiction, that was for sure. James Hetfield 'recently' (I think recently?) admitted that he never really talked to Layne, and never knew him. So why the hell did he write about Layne when he harassed him like that? My guess is that he only cared about Layne because he was friends with Jerry. Unbelievable...

What's also weird is that Lars Ulrich named his kid after Layne... ??? Why? They didn't know each other. They had no connection whatsoever. And Lars harrassed Layne, too, soooooo.... ??? Maybe he named his kid after Layne because he and Jerry are friends, and maybe Jerry wanted to name his kid after Layne, but to this day Jerry has no partner or kids... maybe Lars felt bad and thought someone should be named after Jerry's best friend 🤷♀️ idrk
Yes, yes, this was all 30 years ago, and they're grown-ass men now, and they're probably *better* people now, for the most part... but I needed to show you guys this. I still can't believe it happened. Doesn't matter if you don't know these bands, that's alright ❤️ and I'm sorry for droning on... as long as we can all agree this was a pretty low move for Metallica to have made.
*Disclaimer: I still like Metallica... it's just harder to listen to them now, personally, knowing the kind of people they are... I've lost a lot of respect for them...* 😞
Next chapter out tomorrow, as promised ❤️❤️❤️ just needed you guys to know what was up... it may come up in the next chapter... 👀
