A woman strolled in the Doctor's office, "it's been a while since I've been summoned to the Emergency Room, whatsup Ray?"
"Hi Vera, a very complicated case walked in today."
"Family?" she asked sitting down.
"Yes." Dr Ray answered.
"Give it to me?"
"So there's a family of four. Mum dad brother and a sister and the brother is in charge of the family."
"What do you mean?"
"The brother is in charge of the family. The parents have no stance and he is the protector of the family."
"How old is he?"
"He's a teenager, like 17."
"That's normal in some cases though."
"He is overwhelmed."
"Did he say he is?"
"So the sister is 14 and was recently sexually abused and she doesn't want to be separated from her brother. She came in two days ago after attempting suicide. The brother was in the hospital this morning because he fainted as a result of fatigue and exhaustion."
"And the parents?" Dr Vera asked.
"They're just there. They looked tired, a lot is going on."
"Mhmm," Dr Vera tapped her pointy finger on the armchair thinking.
"The sister should've been shying away from the brother if she was sexually abused. It only shows the dependency she has on her brother is too much." She finished analyzing.
"Exactly. That's what I thought too. All male species should be a threat to her eyes but she keeps her brother close instead of clinging to her mother."
"I see. So what's your advice?" Dr Vera asked.
"The boy is only 17 he's having a hard time too. He needs to live his life instead of being an adult. It's going to get so overwhelming that he might just run away and the sister is going to get crashed and it won't end up in an attempt."
Dr Vera nodded her head in agreement. "The parents has to step up then."
"Yes,"
"Ok I'll meet them tomorrow and see what we can do."
"I'll come with them to your office."
"Thanks Ray."
Meanwhile, Mew waited for Gulf. He waited until his eyes were heavy with sleep. He fell asleep waiting but Gulf did not keep his promise. He did not come and Mew felt so lonely in that hospital.
The following morning, Phu and Sert and social services came and questioned him without his parents present. They asked him who was doing that to him and he was quiet.
They asked if it was the parents and he said no. They made a couple more suggestions and he still kept quiet. There was no getting through him. The social services talked to Mew's parents after that and they denied knowing their son was being bullied just like they had with the police officers.
The social services couldn't do much because Mew was 17 soon turning eighteen. He was legal. Phu vowed to look into the case some more but for now that's all he could do as a policeman. Before he could leave, he handed Mew his card and told him to call him when he can't handle it anymore. Mew nodded and accepted the card.
Meanwhile in another hospital, Gulf's family excluding Faffy were now seated infront of Dr Vera's office. After she introduced herself she asked, "do you know why you're here?"
"No," they all answered in chorus.
"Gulf how old are you?"
"17," he answered.
"Do you have any friends?"
Gulf thought hard and he proudly said, "Faffy."
"I know Faffy is your sister but I meant any male or female friends your age? Or classmates?"
"I have classmates,"
"But not any friends?"
"Yes," he nodded.
Dr Vera turned to the parents, "do you think it's normal for a seventeen year old to not have friends?"
"He is always with his sister," the father answered.
"And he shouldn't." She corrected right away. "He shouldn't be with his sister all the time."
"We have tried," the mother said,
"Now you have to try harder. You have to give him back his teenage years. He is at the age of experimenting and experiencing wrong choices and learning from them. This is a prime time in his youth and you're robbing him of that opportunity to explore who is he as a person.
You're the adults and you have to be responsible for your kids. Gulf is one of your kids and he should act like it." she finished her lecture neatly.
"I don't mind being with Faffy all the time," Gulf told her honestly.
"But I do," the doctor replied. "It's not healthy. Trust me on this. You might think you're doing a good job as a brother which you are but it's just too much for you."
"I don't mind,"
"But you will start minding at some point." She turned to the parents again, "I heard the girl was sexually abused and she needs to start therapy,"
"She has been going to therapy." The father informed.
"Great, don't let her stop. She has to keep on going and also she should be put under suicide watch. Remove all sharp things from her room. She should always stay at home with her door open. Find activities for her to do. Mum should try and spend girl time with her daughter. When mum is tired, Dad should step in and have some daddy daughter time. You don't need to do anything fancy.
Read her some inspiring novels, make her favorite food together, watch her favorite movies, or movies that makes her feel comforted, listen to music together, do manicure or pedicure. Make her feel loved. That's all she needs right now."
She turned to the boy, "And Gulf, when you think of making a friend does anyone come to mind?"
He nodded and internally smiled.
Mew came to mind.
