Please refer to the end of the chapter for the story behind the picture attached.

10 years later,

Mew was seated in a comfortable chair rocking comfortably one leg on top of the other. A detective was seated on the side of his desk watching and a woman was crouched opposite Mew.

"What did you say are the cause of these bruises?"

"He fell off a chair."

"What kind of chair?"

"Wooden chair."

"What was around the chair?"

"His shoes were next to the chair."

"How many times has he fallen off the chair?"

"Three times."

"That's really unfortunate." Mew said studying the pictures and the reports for the last time before slammed the folder on the desk and it startled everyone in the room.

Mew placed two pictures of bruised toddler's chests in front of the lady.

"One of the two is a picture of a toddler that actually fell off a chair. And also amongst the two is your baby. Choose which one you think is your baby."

The lady looked closer. The two pictures looked like her baby so she chose the one she believed to be hers.

"Right?" Mew questioned with a smile that said you're trapped . "You also think it's that picture right?"

The lady nodded.

"Why did you not choose the other one?"

The lady kept quiet

"I'll tell you why. Because the picture you left is a baby that was physically abused. And you know what's even funny? That picture is also your baby."

The smile of victory that had been on Mew's face vanished.

"You said he fell off a chair and landed on shoes?
Lies!
X-rays showed he cracked a rib.
You said he fell three times?
Medical report said it's at least six times.
The teachers at the pre- school had been keeping records of every bruise he came to school with. The neighbors filed a complaint about five times in the past year of your baby crying all night. So here are your two options,
Either you admit to child abuse or be charged with attempted murder."

The lady's eyes grew to the size of saucers.

The detective next to Mew said,

"You put your child in the chair the first time and he fell. You saw that he was hurt but you put him on the same chair again and he fell and you saw that he got hurt. You put him again on the same chair with the knowledge that he was going to fall so that was intentional. It's a planned murder."

"I only hit him a few times." She confessed.

The detective got up and produced some cuffs.

"You're under arrest for child abuse." The detective looked at Mew and Mew winked.

The detective went on, "you're also found guilty of attempted murder of a child."

He took out his walkie talkie and requested some police officer to come and get her. A police officer on standby came in and took the woman away.

As soon as the door closed, the detective was sitting on Mew's lap facing Mew. He got hold of Mew's face and gave him smooches.

"Why are you so good at this?" He asked

"Experience?" Mew replied.

"Wanna talk about it tonight?"

Mew held the butt of his husband lightly, "yes, but can't you extend your time here?"

"Hubby you know I got assigned on another case," the man replied.

"But Gulf,"

"we still have all the week to ourselves. Besides, I can see you at home after work." Gulf replied.

Mew frowned, "but you don't come home for 3 days when you're staking out." Mew whined.

"I'll try not to." Gulf replied pecking Mew's forehead.

They heard footsteps approaching. Gulf got up from Mew's lap and sat in his chair.

They both weren't expecting what walked in next.

They stared at their next case wondering if there was a mistake. Mew opened his file and saw the name Linda but a different last name.

He looked at a worried Gulf and smirked. Gulf got the message. Linda came in and sat down surprised at seeing these two inside the social services investigation office.

Mew looked at the allegations and felt his blood boiling with anger.

"How is that you adopt a person as soon as you come out of jail?"

He turned to Gulf, "Detective is that possible for a convict to adopt?"

"Not possible unless it is a special case."

"So illegal adoption is the first crime."

Mew was strict when it comes to child abuse and who ever walked in his office didn't get out unscathed. They had to pay dearly.

But on this case he was brutal. He had studied psychology along with social work in college.
The lady had learned this bad habit from watching her son abusing another person as a way of relieving anger. To add on she had gone to prison so she needed to vent that's why she adopted a helpless child, just as helpless as Mew back then.

That's why Mew over analyzed every single thing she did and came up with a crime that warranted five years in prison.

"Your son is coming out of prison in five years right? How about you go back and wait for him quietly without causing problems? But mark my words woman, as soon as you come out I'm going to make sure you go back to jail again both you and your son. I'll make sure you'll never see the light of day again because you contaminate the environment with your wickedness.

And by the way, the woman you threatened and instructed to ignore me got married to your husband and they have 2 kids. Something you'll never have again.

Hubby, please put the trash away." Mew finished with a disgusted look on his face.

Gulf stood up proud with a smile on his face, "You're under arrest and you know why."

Gulf had broken a rule but he felt like he didn't need to waste his energy on someone like her.

"I'll personally put this way myself." He said to Mew and Mew nodded. He got up and kissed Gulf right on the lips, something that he never did in front these people. But this time he did it to spite her.

To show her the world was on his side.

To show her he conquered.

To show her the result of having held on instead of ending it.

To show her that karma was real.

AN: In late 2020, South Korea, a baby named Jeongin around 18months died as a result of pancreas complications that was caused by child abuse. Jeongin was adopted by a young couple who got arrested after the death of the baby. What was heart breaking was the kindergarten teachers and some neighbors had filled countless reports to the police about child abuse but the police did nothing. Social services were alerted but again they did nothing until the baby died. Koreans trended a hashtag #sorry-Jeongin on social media asking for maximum punishment to all those who were involved including the police and the social services.

Y'all reporting abuse is very important. Let's save lives.

#to all victims of any type of abuse, thank you for holding on❤️💝
