The teacher that had accompanied the boys to the hospital saw the parents and the policemen and went to exchange greetings.
"I'm Mew's homeroom teacher, I feel awful about what has happened to Mew."
The policemen turned to the teacher, " Call me Phin this is my colleague Sert, do you know anything related to his bullying?"
"I do not know. Mew is quite reserved and doesn't say much. No one has ever reported bullying going on in class or to their classmate so it's hard to tell where it's taking place."
"Couldn't you have done something as the homeroom teacher? Were you going to show concern after he was dead?" Sert scolded seriously.
"I always try to make him talk to me about the bullying but he never open up. He doesn't answer when I ask. I suggested therapy for him but he didn't take it so what was I supposed to do?"
"How about calling his parents?" Sert questioned.
The teacher took out his phone and went to his call log. He scrolled down and showed the policeman how he dialed Mew' mother and father a number of times but all calls were never picked up.
The police looked at the parents with disapproval. "What parenting techniques you have." Phin said sarcasm dripping from his tone and then asked the teacher,
"What happened this morning would you like to tell us?"
"I got called by the students saying two students collapsed in the hallway."
"Both of them?"
"Yeah."
"Could it be the other boy was the bully?"
"It's unlikely. He is having health problems too. I would say he was helping Mew to get down. Witnesses say they saw Gulf carrying Mew down the stairs on his back. My guess is he must've seen Mew unconscious somewhere and was helping him when he fainted as well." The teacher have his version of the story.
"I see. Thank you teacher. What's wrong with the other student?" Phin asked curious.
"I saw his parent, she said he has not been doing well because they are having family problems."
"I see. I'll go check with them to see if there's anything we can do." An untrusting Phin said to his partner as he wondered why these people have children when they're not willing to dedicate resources and time needed to raise them?
"Ok I'll wait here for the social services." Sert replied.
Phin went and saw a woman looking tired staring into space.
"Ma'am, can I have a word?" He said approaching her slowly not wanting to startle her.
She looked up and just nodded.
"What happened to your son?"
"Doctors said he is exhausted mentally and physically. He's been taking care of his sister who got rapped a few months ago. We haven't gotten the person who was behind it. The police were not of much help too. They said there was no trace of anyone getting rapped in school yet my baby is still hurting."
The man in uniform saw how painful it was for the mother through the helpless tears that made a trail on her cheeks, refusing to stop.
"What?" he asked was surprised.
"There were no witnesses or evidence to show that it took place in school."
"Even if they didn't find it in school, shouldn't they have looked into it some more?"
The woman shook her head, helpless. "They couldn't help. Up to know we don't know who did that to my baby and she is only 14 years old. Last night she tried to commit suicide in her brother's room,"
and the pieces to this puzzle fell into place. It made sense and there were no loopholes in this story.
"We'll try to look for the person who did that to your daughter ma'am. Can I have your number and address so that I can call you and ask you some questions?
"Sure." The lady thought maybe something was going to happen now.
The policeman thought the mystery going on was suspicious. A kid was raped and no one witnessed or heard anything. Mew's case was not making sense at all either. No one knew who was abusing him and no one again witnessed him getting bullied. So was there ghosts terrorizing students now?
Gulf woke up first and he called out for Faffy.
The mother stood up from where she was sitting and came next to his bed."She is ok. They said she survived the hard part. Had you found her a minute late we could've lost her. You did an amazing job Gulf."
He sighed.
Only momentarily.
"Mew? What about Mew? How is he?"
"Your friend is going to be ok now. Did you know that he was being bullied?"
Gulf nodded slowly feeling a headache approaching.
"It was so bad this time they said. His parents came and they are keeping him safe."
Gulf wanted to go and see Faffy and Mew but his headache got worst so he opted to shut his eyes more. They were so heavy with sleep. He couldn't remember the last time he slept peacefully.
"I'm going to sleep some more." He mumbled drifting off.
"You do that."
Gulf slept the rest of the day and half of the following day. When he woke up he was feeling like he could breathe now. His head felt lighter and shoulders were no longer as heavy but his heart was still bleeding and the raw pain was not going to fade away miraculously.
He insisted on going to see Mew who had woken up that morning since they were in the same hospital.
Somehow thinking about Mew comforted his hurting heart. Knowing that someone else was going through worse made his problems feel lighter.
