Three months down the line, Faffy was seeing a therapist but still she was not getting better. The trauma she went through was just too much for her.
In those three months, Gulf lost so much weight. It was taking a toll on him. His sister was not sleeping well or eating well. his routine completely changed. He couldn't find a balance between caring for Faffy and caring for himself.
He sat in class one moody day and his eyes just couldn't stay open. It was about five minutes before the lesson started that he went on the rooftop to get some fresh air. He sighed as he sat down in a blind spot. He was not sleeping at home and at school he was still looking for the devil that hurt his sister. He felt drained and so tired. He sat quietly thinking of skipping the first lesson and just get some much needed rest.
He heard the rooftop open and a plastic noise. He didn't do anything but listened. He heard the plastic noise again as if someone was looking for something in a plastic bag. A few minutes later he heard some hisses as if the person was in pain. He realized he was not going to get any rest so he decided to come out and just go to the lesson. He came face to face with a shirtless guy trying to put ointment on his red back.
He froze looking at the damaged back of the boy Who seemed to be his age. The red thick lines contrasted with his milky fair skin and he knew it was a result of bullying.
He approached the boy not making any sound and when he touched his shoulder the boy turned around startled; his eyes wide open with shock of being discovered like this. He rushed to put on his shirt but the pain was just too much to bear.
"Take it off." Gulf commanded grabbing the ointment from his hand.
"I can do it by myself."
"I said take it off." He said again and the boy had no option but to just taking off the shirt. He winced as Gulf applied the ointment on his wounds. They didn't talk. They didn't ask each other questions. Gulf finished applying ointment and wrapped his back with a bandage. After he was done he left.
He felt sorry but he was already full of worry because of Faffy. There was nothing he could do for the boy.
The sane thing happened the following day, but the boy had some cuts on his hands this time.
His right hand was worst than the other and he was right handed. His left hand couldn't do anything. Gulf came and helped him again but before he could leave his shirt was gripped by the boy's left hand.
"What's your name?" He asked curious.
"Gulf." He answered grumpily. He could only be like this at school because back at home he had to be all smiles for Faffy.
"Thanks for yesterday and today Gulf." It was sincere gratitude.
"You're welcome...?" Gulf left the sentence hanging.
"Mew." Mew answered putting his medicine away.
"You're welcome Mew." He replied turning around to walk away but he changed his mind and came back to stand in front of Mew.
"I'm going to ask only this once not because I care but out of courtesy, who is doing that to you?"
"Oh it's nothing I'm just clumsy." Mew played it off terribly.
"I see. Just to let you know that bullying is toxic and if you keep on covering it up you might end up dead."
Mew nodded his head shyly and as Gulf was about to walk away he asked too,
"I'm also going to ask you once,"
Gulf paused and looked back,
"What's stressing you out?" Mew asked pitifully.
My baby sis is not feeling well. She is so sick as I don't have any power to help her. She's my everything. She's my world.
"Wow."
Gulf looked up.
"I've never heard someone describe their siblings like that."
"Yeah?"
Mew nodded his head with an amazed smile.
"I just can't seem to function well when she's ill." He confessed truthfully.
"Are you twins?"
"No she's my younger.
"I hope your baby sis will be better so you can start functioning better."
"I hope you report whoever is bullying you."
"I hope so too." Mew answered sadly and that was Gulf's cue to leave.
That night, Gulf did not sleep because Faffy was up all night. She came into his room crying and he scooted over so she could have some space on his bed.
"P'"
"What's wrong?" Gulf gently asked.
"Will I become normal again?" She asked her node blocked from crying too much.
Gulf's heart broke all over again. He knew she couldn't become normal again. Not after a scarring incident she went through.
"You're normal princess. You're already normal."
"I'm scared."
She wept on his brother's shoulders.
I"'m right here with you." The brother comforted. Faffy stayed in her brothers embrace and Gulf started dozing off. He jolted awake about fifteen minutes later and heard the shower running. He saw an empty space and realized it was Faffy. He slumbed back on the bed ready to fall back asleep when his eyes opened with a sudden realization. It was just after midnight and the shower was running. He got up and ran to his bathroom. He tried opening the door but it wouldn't open. He started banging on the the door desperately calling for Faffy to come out.
The noise he was making alerted his parents that something had gone wrong. They came as soon as they could and saw Gulf's eyes now red with crying, his forehead sweaty,
In a panicked voice he screamed, "She won't open the door, please help me open it."
The father tried opening the door to no avail. It was locked and he tried convincing,
"Princess please open the door," he banged the door some more, "we're worried here please open it."
He went quiet to listen to the reply but all that could be heard was the shower running. Gulf looked around his room desperately looking for something to help him open the door. He just grabbed the first thing he saw and started hitting the door handle. It took him about eight hits and it cane off. They barged in the bathroom and halted their steps. They couldn't believe it. It was a sea of red blood diluted with water from the shower. It's source a cut wrist now swollen and flesh looking bad from being forcefully cut. The other hand was holding a razor.
Gulf turned off the shower and took a clean towel to cover the fresh wound. "Call the ambulance," he shouted trying to keep his cool but he was so close to breaking down. He heard no movement so he looked back and saw his parents frozen on one spot.
"I said call the ambulance. Please call the ambulance I don't want to lose her please do something." He could literally feel his heartbreaking as each second ticked.
The screaming brought his father out of his shocked bubble. He rushed out of the room to go get a phone. The mother just slumbed on the floor her eyes refusing to leave the scene before her. Gulf tied the wrist with a towel and sat on the red wet floor holding his sister tightly trying to make her warm. He didn't know what he was doing but he knew he had to do something to keep her warm. To keep her alive.
The rest of the night was a blur. The ambulance coming and getting Faffy, Gulf being left with his mother whilst the dad went to the hospital.
He didn't know how he made it to morning but when his alarm went off, his eyes were wide open, dark circles going all the way down to his puffed cheeks.
He was hurting.
