i was still standing there speechless. why he did this? what's the whole point? now i understand why i couldn't remember when i applied.
"so you're just standing there not saying a word?" the professor asked kindly and giggling.
i smiled awkwardly and said: "just why? why did you do this for me? not saying this is a bad thing because i'd love doing this experience, but my parents didn't react very well."
"i'm really sorry, if you want i can try to talk to them." he said taking off his glasses and putting them on the desk, then he crossed his arms.
"yeah that would be awesome, but what's the reason why you applied me? couldn't you just tell me?" that was the main question that was in my mind now and it had to be answered.
he looked at me, then after few seconds he said: "well, i think this experience is amazing and everybody should do that once in their life, and i think you need this more than anyone. plus i know that you wouldn't have done this by yourself, you needed a push."
i was shocked in a good way. there were few professors who really cared about their students and professor Rossi was one of them.
some tears came up to my eyes, i smiled and looked down and tried not to cry. he must have noticed so he came closer to me and said: "i just hope that you're gonna do this, i believe in you so much and i know you'll have a great time there."
i know he tried to make me feel better and not to cry, but these words didn't help lol.
"since i put you through this situation, i wanna help you, give me your parents emails so that i can talk to them and ensure them about anything."
i was about to tell him something, but my eyes took a look at the clock behind him and i noticed that i had been there for too long, so i needed to go back to class.
"thank you professor, i really wish i could stay more but i need to go. also would you mind sending me more details via email, please?" i asked him before closing the door and saying goodbye to him.
i tried to walk through the hallway as fast as i could because we weren't allowed to run, the more time passed by the more i was getting nervous. i finally arrived at my class, i knocked at the door and when i heard a "come in" i opened the door and entered the class.
i was expecting the math professor, instead she wasn't there. i had been out of the class for quite a long time, so there was the chemistry professor.
"excuse me for being late, but professor Rossi asked for me." i tried to make the excuse as quick as possible so that i could go seat to my desk.
"yeah your friend told me, now you can seat to your place and fast, you interrupted my lesson." she said turning her head on the book so that she could continue speaking.
i went to my desk and as soon as i sat, i took the chemistry book so that i could at least follow the rest of the lesson, since i already missed the first half.
i was writing down on the book some notes the professor was saying when i noticed chiara passed me a little piece of paper. i looked at her and she whispered me to open it.
what did professor Rossi tell you? he kept you away for quite a long time
i took a pen and write her back on the same piece of paper:
it's kind of a long story, but basically he applied for me for the exchange program
as soon as she read what i wrote, she looked at me more shocked than i was when i found out.
the last bell finally rang and we could go home, i was tired and starving, i couldn't wait to eat something.
"so it was professor Rossi, uh?" Chiara came up next to me. "that's kind of weird and illegal, i mean, he used your private information without consent. what are you gonna do?"
"yeah that's crazy, i know. also, my parents almost freaked out. what am i gonna do? i really don't know. what do you think?" i asked her as advice while i was grabbing my stuff and going out of the class.
"i think that you shouldn't go. you don't know anything about the place, the program, where you're gonna stay.." she said. the same things my parents said. "also, you know that many people don't know italian? how are you gonna do? not to be mean, but are you sure you're able to speak fluently in another language to be understood?"
wow. that kinda hurt 'cause i would have expected that from my parent, not from my best friend. plus, she knows my travelling passion, along with meeting new people, cultures and visiting new places.
"uh yeah, i should really be going home" i said trying to get away the fastest as possible, i didn't even want to discuss about things she should already know.
"wait we were supposed to have lunch somewhere with riccardo and his soccer friends. are you going to leave me alone? c'mon" she must had noticed she said something wrong 'cause she was trying to joke to convince me to have lunch together.
"yeah i know, i'm sorry but i realised i have to keep up with chemistry program since i missed the last couple lessons. i don't wanna miss the year. let me know how the lunch goes." i said the first thing that came up to my mind, then i smiled at chiara as nothing happened.
after a 10 mins ride me and ale arrived at home. we cooked something and after having lunch, he went straight to play some games, so i went to my room, since today i had to meet daniele, and now i had to choose what to wear.
pretty difficult thing to do, since i don't even know what type of meeting is. for sure it's not a date, but i don't even wanna dress as a homeless. i guess this is gonna take quite a long time.
