after about 20 minutes vinnie and i parked the car and started walking trying to find a good place where we could order a cake for maria's birthday.
"what do you think about this one? seems nice, they also have cupcakes and more!" i said pointing out a cake shop with a colourful sign.
vinnie took a quick look at it, but didn't show as much excitement as i did. ugh, i guess he was hard to please.
"nah i want something cooler and different." he just said.
wow nice. now i knew your exact ideas vinnie.
"such as?" i asked.
"i'll know when i'll see." he said kind of bothered.
"cool. but if you don't say your actual ideas i can't be helpful and this is gonna be useless!" i said sounding kinda impatient. well, i was.
"okay, listen: i'm sorry but i honestly have no idea at all. let's just take today as a rest day and whenever we find something we like we buy it." he said passing his left hand through his curly hair and hinting a smile.
"no need to apologise." i hinted a smile. "and fine! you could be my personal guide today and show me more about los angeles, uh?"
vinnie looked at me smiling and he got me closer to him by placing his arm on my shoulders: i felt so protected.
we spent good part of the morning by stopping at starbucks, again, because vinnie was hungry, then we went to the skatepark because there were some of vinnie's friends and we greeted them.
i was pretty sure their names were liza, jack and evon. we didn't stay there much but i had the chance to talk to them and they seemed nice.
now we were at melrose avenue and i found out vinnie loved coming here. he said he would come here anytime he wanted to shopping because he would find the 'coolest stuff in the whole freaking world' as he said.
in fact, he bought a cute pair of baggy jeans, his favourites, a couple of t shirts and a pretty cool hoodie.
vinnie also insisted for me to buy something and he also wanted to pay for it as a way to thank me for coming with him.
"no freaking way vinnie! i'm here because it's fun and also i want to do something for maria as well." i said as we were walking out of the store. "but if you insist, i could wear some of your new clothes whenever i'd like to."
at first he didn't say anything. he just got a thoughtful face as a joke and then he said: "hmm deal, but of course i'll have to wear them first!"
we kept going for that way for some more minutes, then we realised it was almost lunch time since our stomachs were rumbling.
"i think we should get something to eat." vinnie said touching his stomach. "do you have any preference?"
i thought about it for a bit, but honestly i had no idea. the only things i had tried since i got here were starbucks' and mc donald's and i wanted to try something else.
"hm, everything's good except for starbucks and mc donald's please." i giggled.
"then i could have a place in mind!" he said looking pretty excited about it.
we got in the car again and not even 10 minutes later we arrived: it was a pretty big place, it had tables and seats mostly on the outside. also i noticed some cute lights that were decorating the walls and it seemed a pretty cool place.
"wow i wasn't definitely expecting that! how much is it gonna cost?" i couldn't imagine a better place than this one, but it's wasn't definitely for some teens.
"don't worry about that, let's just go to eat now!" vinnie said getting off the car, only after i did as well.
as i was waiting on the sidewalk for him to come next to me, i saw some guy with a filming camera coming towards us.
i immediately looked at vinnie and he said: "whatever thing he says, just smile without saying anything. i'll deal with it, okay?"
i nodded and i took a deep breath. i just had to smile. not a single word. how hard could have this been?
"hey guys! how are you doin?" the guy said as he was closer to us. "vinnie, man what's up?"
"hi fletcher." vinnie greeted him. "we're just getting something to eat, you know."
"yeah i see, is that your new chick?" that fletcher guy said not even looking at me.
rude as hell. chick? nah man you're messing up
i was expecting vinnie to look at me but he didn't. he got past me, covering me from fletcher.
"definitely not a chick, man." vinnie said sounding pretty bothered by the way he defined me. "i'm sorry, but we should definitely go."
as soon as vinnie said that, he walked us away from there taking my hand locking our fingers together.
as much as i felt comfortable, i thought he did that without even realising, because our being so close now, specially holding our hands, didn't seem much friendly.
we got in and after the waitress got a table for the two of us, we took a seat and got a little bit more comfortable.
"hey, anna. i'm sorry for how i looked earlier. it's just i hate when they act like this and also i couldn't stand the way he called you." vinnie said as we were looking for something to order out of the menu.
"vin, it's fine. i get your point and let's just forget about that." i said looking at him and he did the same. "as you said, this is our rest day and let's enjoy it!"
we both hinted a smile at each other, then we took a last look at the menu to decide what we wanted to order.
"are you guys ready?" the waitress asked us kindly ready to write down our order.
vinnie looked at me waiting for a sign of approval and as i nodded my head he started ordering: we opted for some nachos, two cheeseburgers and french fries. very original, yes, but we were good with it.
as we were waiting for our food to come, i noticed vinnie was looking around him, but he was calm and relaxed.
"are you afraid that your parents might find out we skipped classes, huh?" i joked.
"nah, i'm not worried about that." vinnie chuckled. "i was just checking for fletcher."
as soon as he said that, my mood kinda changed. i didn't want to hate that guy, but he made it hard since he called me that way.
"oh. i'm pretty sure he's looking for some other people to bother." i said trying not to sound bothered.
"yeah probably. i feel sorry for them." vinnie tried to play it down. "i'm sorry for bringing it up."
i shook my head to reassure him everything was okay and i wanted to speak up, but a text on my phone got my attention:
