fortunately the day after at school nobody noticed that we skipped the last class. in fact this morning we got into english class and the professor didn't say a word, even though we were afraid he could have, specially me and charli.
the lessons were finally done, so i grabbed my backpack and went to the spanish class, since i had to wait for vinnie to get home. the bell rang about 5 minutes ago, but the door was still closed.
i tried to take a look inside to see if they were all there, but a male voice behind my back made me turn immediately: "i'm here, we can go." it was vinnie.
i just nodded and started walking next to him. we didn't talk much since yesterday and it was better cause every time things seemed to be better, the second later vinnie acted weird.
we got in the car and he drove so fast that we arrived home not even 5 minutes later. i put off my seatbelt and i was expecting vinnie to do the same, but instead he was still there.
"you're not coming?" i asked. i was just being polite.
he shook his head and said: "no, tell my mom i'll be home tonight." good, at least i was able to spend the afternoon in peace.
i closed the car door and took the keys to open the main door. "maria i'm home!" i said lightly out loud because i wanted to make sure she heard me.
"how was today?" she asked me while she was getting downstairs. i looked at her and she looked like she was about to go somewhere. "do you mind if we talk later? reggie has to go to the doctor's and i'll go with him."
"oh is he okay? something happened?" i asked worried. i didn't know he wasn't feeling well.
"oh no everything's fine. we just need to make sure he's fine so he can join the baseball team." she said reassuring me. "reggie c'mon, we're late!" as soon as she spoke, reggie came downstairs and after few seconds they were both gone.
the house now felt so calm and honestly i loved spending time by myself. don't get me wrong, i loved all of them, they were so caring, but i loved this feeling.
i was eating something, since i didn't had much for lunch, when a text appeared on my phone:
emily
i'll be at your place in 5 mins. :)right i almost forgot. last night we decided to meet up today, so she could have helped me with math as soon as possible.
i would have preferred to go to her house because i wanted to avoid vinnie for a while, but she said it would have been better at 'my' place because her parents were there and didn't want to get distracted.
actually it seemed like she insisted for coming here, but i guess it was fine.
i cleaned off the table where i was eating so we could have studied here, then i went to my room to take the book and some paper sheets in case i had to write something.
i was wondering how this emily girl was like, for sure she was smart because the professor had a good opinion on her, and i hoped she was also nice.
the door bell snapped me out of my thoughts and i sped up to open the door. a brown headed girl was standing in front of me with a little smile on her face; i welcomed her inside and closed the door behind my back.
"it took you less than 5 minutes to come here, you were afraid i would have run away?" i chuckled trying to make it less awkward.
she lightly smiled and then said: "i live near by, also i hope this tutoring thing won't take us a lot of time." right, who has fun while tutoring math?
we sat around the table to finally get started. as soon as she started speaking, i immediately noticed how good she was at explaining those things, no wonder why the professor had a good opinion on her.
it had been almost an hour since we started studying, so i suggested to take a little break. fortunately she agreed with me, so i said: "you want something to eat or drink? i would make some popcorns for us, if only i knew where they are."
she was looking at me without saying anything, so i continued: "i still have to get used to live here."
then she finally said something: "come here, we'll find them." i said nothing and i followed her.
we arrived at the kitchen and without even trying hard, she immediately found them. i looked at her surprised, so she said: "uhm, it was just luck, i supposed they were here."
she didn't sound much convinced, but all i cared now was making popcorns. i was waiting for them to pop out, when emily turned towards me.
finally she wanted to talk, it seemed like i was the only one who wanted to make it less awkward: "so, how's you life here? you prefer it here or you hometown?"
"here it's great and cool, and yeah i miss my family, but i don't regret coming here. it was the best thing that could ever happened to me." i said looking at her.
"well that's cool, i hope you won't regret it during the next months." she said and i was surprised by what she said. "just kidding, you're gonna have fun here." she continued with a little smile on her face.
after that, we both said nothing. i was still thinking about what she just said. i know she was kidding, but she also seemed like she meant that. then she asked out of the blue: "and how's vinnie? is he making you feel welcomed?"
that was actually the last question i wanted to answer right now, but i pretended nothing happened and said: "vinnie's really nice to me, and yeah he and his family made me feel really welcomed."
"oh yeah his family is great, but vinnie isn't the perfect guy he may look like. if you want an advice, don't rely on him." i was surprised by what she said about.
yeah he changed his attitude every second, but he wasn't a bad person. he made sure i was feeling comfortable when i first arrived here and i really appreciated it.
"uh, yeah, thanks for the advice." i faked a smile and pretended i would have taken her advice. i only met vinnie few days ago and i didn't want a random girl to affect negatively my opinion on vinnie.
