MAMA TOLD ME NOT TO WASTE MY LIFE, SHE SAID SPREAD YOUR WINGS MY LITTLE BUTTERFLY

"What?" I asked, my heart breaking to pieces. All the noise around me seemed to fade away. "You did. You started the fire." he said, stressing on each word maliciously. Images flashed in front of me; more like a forgotten memory. Stepping away from Leo and whatever his name was, I ran straight into the forest, hearing feeble cries of my name from where I had just escaped from. I could feel the fire as I ran as fast as I could, images after images flashing in front of me.
Years ago.....the day they died
"Next up, we have Linda May of Grade 3 with a song dedicated to her parents!" I heard the host say, as I sat in the comfort of my parents on either side of me. "Careful there love!" said Mom, using her hand to dust off some glitter from my skirt. The five year old me was loving the attention until everyone in the audience clapped, breaking me from my daze.
"Well that was a good show!" I heard dad as we got up to go to the exit. "Leonard! Janice!" a voice stopped us from continuing. Me, still holding onto my mom's hand, we turned back to see a man. I didn't know his full name, but I knew that his first name was David. "Dave!" dad shook the man's hand. "Lovely performance today Miss Kiara!" he said, giving me a nod. I smiled back. "KC!!" I heard the voice of Violet, my then best friend and neighbour call me. "Mommy? Can I go and play with Violet for a while?" I asked mom. "Sure honey. Be careful! Don't go too far!" she let me go and skipped over to Vi. "Let's go to that window! We can play I Spy With My Little Eye then!!" she said, and we both went and sat at the window, where we could see the evening sun setting. "I spy with my little eye.....something starting with F!" she declared. I looked at the garden we were facing. "Flower!" I said, pointing at the purple one growing right in front of us. We continued for a little while, walking around the entire theatre we were in.
"Kiara, what is that in your hand?" I heard Vi ask me. I looked down and saw something fluttering right in the middle of my palms. It was very warm, comparing to the air conditions we were standing right under. "Wow! I need to tell mom and dad! It's so warm!!" I said and ran to my parents who were waiting for me near the entrance. "Mommy!! Daddy!!!" I said excitedly, keeping whatever was in my hand at an arm's distance. "What is it love?" my mom ask, stroking my hair. "Look at this!!" I said, putting my open palms in front of them. Mom's mouth fell open. "This-" she began, and when my dad came and stood next to me, he mirrored her expression. "What's wrong mommy?" I asked, feeling disappointed. "This isn't supposed to happen!" I heard her whisper, though it was much louder in my ears than ever.
"Honey." dad said, closing my palms with his and looking into my eyes. "I am sorry but you need to let this go." he said. My excitement immediately died down, and I looked at my shoes. "Look at me." I looked up at his soft brown eyes. "We will not talk about this ever again okay? This is not something you need to deal with now. Is that okay honey?" he asked. I slowly nodded. "Go on now. You can play with Violet for some more time." he said, causing me to smile. "Thank you!!" I said, and skipped off to the spot Vi was waiting.
Suddenly, someone bumped into me, causing me to stumble. Two hands caught my shoulders, steadying me. "Are you okay?" I heard a familiar deep voice. I looked up to see the same Mr. David, the one who was talking to my parents. "Yes. I am sorry for bumping into you Mr. David." I said. He just laughed. I looked up and saw him waving one hand. "Don't call me Mr. David! You can call me Uncle Dave! And please don't apologize! I bumped into you first!" he said. He made way for me to go to the other side, but the weird thing was, I felt eyes staring two holes in the back of my head. Since I had stumbled backward so hard, the warmth from my hands had immediately disappeared and the familiar cool feeling covered my palms. I was almost next to Violet, when a panicked shout took over the hall.
"FIRE FIRE!!! EVERYBOYD SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!"
And sure enough, a fire was blazing right in the spot where I had stumbled, but it wasn't a warm one....It was one that looked like it could consume people in just one bite.
The crowd that was still in the hall started rushing out, separating everyone from their groups as the fire grew larger. Someone knocked me over, causing me to hit my head to the floor, and right in front of me, I could see a pair of shoes. With my vision blurred, I looked up, only to see a person with an eye mask like a fox's, his lips spread into a malicious grin...
