"But before we begin, I'm going to get some hamburgers!!" I said and went further down the stairs to the kitchen. "Sure thanks KC! I'll let the other two know as well!" he shouted and went into one of the rooms, i think because I heard a door close. I went to the stove and the memory of all the near death incidents played in my head. The time when I first turned into a phoenix, and least of all, the wolf attack. I knew I had to keep them safe, one way or another. I was staring into space, but then I felt sparks crackling out my palms. A small flame floated over the food and settled all over it. "What jus-?"
"KC! You coming?" I heard Leo shout from upstairs. "YEAH! One sec!" I said, and went to the recreation room, still bewildered of the flame settlement, but immediately brushed it away as Nate turned on the big screen. "It's been few days since we started college, so it's better if we begin with finding out our suspect." he paused, but continued. "In the files he gave us last week, Chief has his suspicions of where Black Fox's temporary hideout is. If you see the screen..." he pointed to the digital map where our current location is. "We, are here. There's a forest a few miles from here..." when he said that, Leo and I shared a look. It was the forest where the wolves chased us. "And it's especially dangerous at night, so we need to- Leo, KC what's wrong?" he said suddenly, that i blurted out. "Nothing! Nothing at all!" but immediately regretted it, realizing that I just gave myself away. "What happened?"
"We can't keep it away from them longer. They need to know." Leo said and put a hand on my shoulder. "Fine." I said and sat back in my chair. "Remember the day we drove to get the files?" Leo asked. The twins nodded. "Well, when we were on our way back, uh, we were attacked." Leo said. "WHAT!" Greg stood up and few papers from the desk in the corner flew around. "Who attacked you?" he asked. "Wolves." I said, and got up. "WOLVES? Why would wolves attack you?" Nate asked. We told what happened that night.
"This is bad." said Nate. "I think I know who's behind this." I said quietly. "You do?" all three of them asked me. "The blade that threw me to the wall, is the same one Black Fox stabbed me with the first day I turned into a Phoenix." the room went quiet. "It can be possible." said Greg at last. "But why would he throw a blade, through the air that too?" said Leo, hand on his chin while he thought of possibilities. "We know one thing though." I said and went to the screen. "And what's that?" they asked me together. "He's someone who was really close to my family. He is after something. And if i know the Black Fox, his son is someone familiar." I finished.
"But, have you seen anyone familiar in school yet, other than Principal Willow and his wife?" Leo asked me. "No." I said. "Ugh." I breathed, suddenly hit by exhaustion. "I'm going back to my room." I said, and went out before anyone could say anything. I went straight to the bathroom and lifted my shirt. The gash had started bleeding again. I turned on the tap, put a towel under it, and then placed the towel on the gash. The water stopped the bleeding, and the wound patched itself up again. Feeling better, i decided to read one of the chapters we'd been learning.
That night, as I stared at the ceiling, I had only one question echoing in my head.
Who are you, Black Fox?
