"Welcome to a new year at Sunbrooke! And welcome new students!" said the voice I realized it was a lady. "I am Miss Willow, your Vice Principal, on behalf of Mr. Willow who sadly couldn't make it to the gym now but you will see him later." she continued. "Their names sound so familiar!" i said. "You said the same thing while entering the hall." Leo said and turned to me. "Yeah I know, I mean like, it's like I've literally forgotten about this place!" I said. "Today, you will receive your classes and schedules! And now I call upon Lucas, the head of the Student Council to talk to you about the rules and activities for the school." she said and got off the mike as a tall and serious looking by took her place. "Woah, serious much?" Leo whispered to me. I stifled a giggle. "Shut up!" I said, trying not to burst.
"First I would like to welcome the 6 new students: Greggory and Nathaniel Anderson!" Lucas begin after adjusting his glasses. The crowd clapped loudly. "Leo Reynard! Kiara Angelina C!" he continued and I closed my eyes as he read my middle name. Smooth going Chief! "Wait wait wait! That's your middle name?" Leo asked me and I slowly nodded. "Why don't you use it then?" he asked, now fully turning to me. "I haven't used it since he died." I said and memories came back to me. "Using it just reminds me that I couldn't spend much time with them." I said and sighed. "I'm sorry." he said and put his arm around me again. Every time he did that, I felt safe for some reason. Lucas continued on. "Riley Hart! and Amelia Jackson! Welcome all of you!" there were more claps. Lucas put his hand up to stop them, and then continued with the usual rules of any other school. "The usual activities like Cheerleading, football, basketball and athletics are still there. But we've added music and dance to them this year!" some students cheered. "We'll provide you more details another time. But for now, all of you will receive your schedules at the entrance to the hall. And please, no noise. It echoes too much here!" he said. Some students got up and were about to go out, but then Vice Principal came running again. "I have one more thing to say!" they turned to her. She had a big smile on her face. "The Hall of Portraits is ready! It is going to open today!!" she said and all students clapped. "The Hall of Portraits?" I asked. "Yeah, she n Principal Willow have been talking about it non-stop since the end of last year!" said a boy behind me. "But what exactly is it?" I asked, turning to him.
"Well, apparently, few years ago, there was an incident here and in honor of their sacrifice, portraits of them were painted and arranged in there. None of us have seen it, so we too got excited and we can't wait to see what the fuss is about." said the girl next to him. "Hi. I'm Grace and this is Martin!" she said. "Hey, I'm Kiara and this is Leo." I said and Leo waved and them and I smiled. "Let's go and get our schedules then shall we?" said Martin to us. "Uh yeah, sure!" said Leo and made an eye-movement with me. I nodded and the four of us got off the seats and went out of the hall. There was a crowd surrounding four tables, each of them having signs, one saying freshman, other saying sophomore, third with junior and the last with senior. "This school actually has two parts. Today, they called only the college part. 9th and 10th grade are on the other side!" said Martin. "That's really cool, I think!" said Grace. "We're both freshmen! But we were here during 10th grade too! You?" she asked us. "Freshmen!" I said. "She's got more energy than you!" Leo leaned down to whisper to me. I gave him a look which said you're kidding, right? He laughed. We stood in the line. Older students were giving them to us, so when I reached the front "Name?" said the boy sitting on the chair. "Kiara Angelina C" I said and I got a paper with a neatly printed time-table of my classes. "Class F3, second floor!" he said and Leo got his schedule after me. "Which class?" I asked him, when Martin and Grace went next. "F3" he said. "Cool! Us too!" they said and walked to where we were standing. "You KC?" Leo asked me. "F3" I said and smiled. "Come on! It's almost time to see the Hall of Portraits!"
Me and Leo were almost pulled by Grace to that side of the school. "She can get a little excited sometimes!" whispered Martin to us from behind. "Trust me, I know the feeling!" Leo said and winked at me. I gave him a look. "Be careful, or I just might burn you till you cry!" I said. "You can't bear to." he said. But i knew he was right. I couldn't actually bear to burn him, at least not when I can't control my mind when he's next to me. I shook those thoughts out of my head as we reached probably the mist crowded place I have ever seen. A man's voice echoed. "Good morning students! It's time!" and I heard two heavy doors open. Students poured inside, and immediately the sound of them whispering filled the air. Finally, me, Leo, Grace and Martin reached the door, and there was a familiar wallpaper covering, well, the wall. Three bigger portraits were up front and was surrounded my more people than the back. "Hey! Didn't we just see this person in the gym!?" said a loud voice from the front.
"Yeah, she had a pink streak, didn't she?" said another. All heads turn to look at me. "What's going on?" I asked. "You may want to see it for yourself rookie!" said someone in front of me. I looked around for Leo, but he was no where to be seen. I was pushed forwards by many people, and then I saw what the fuss was all about. I couldn't believe my eyes!
There it was, a photo of six year old me, black hair with one streak of pink, smiling like I had absolutely nothing to worry about, and on either side, the first two people I loved...
