I know I hurt you, never said, "I love you"
But I'm saying now and you should know that
I'm not gonna hold back this time around
If you give me another chance I won't let you down________________________________________________________________________________I Wont Let You Down [Talk to Ya (EP), 2017] ~ HRVY
"You girls are smashin your outfits!" the boys said as we met them at the entrance of the auditorium.
"Hey."
Hearing a soft voice behind me, I turned to see Leo looking at me with a soft expressions. "Y-you look amazing-" I stuttered, totally in awe of how good he looked. White shirt, black stretch pants...definition of perfect...to me at least. "Um, shall we sit inside then?" I asked looking away, embarrassed. He laughs softly. "Sure."
All of us got inside and went over to our reserved seats. Someone schools had already scattered here and there. A few minutes later, a loud sound of an adjusting mic sounded loudly around. "Ahem, sorry. Welcome to the Annual Interschool Competition! We shall begin with the introductions to our judges for the day!" said the anchor, after adjusting the mic for 5 long minutes. The only thing going round and round my head was our dance routine. Our routine included: Gloves Up, Little Mix by the girls and Glowing in the Dark, The Girl and the Dreamcatcher.
"Let's welcome our first school! Dancing on their own stage, Easton High!!" after a short introduction, the group danced on the stage. I must say, the lighting was pretty impressive, and not to mention their dance. After few more schools, there was a short break and after the break, was ours.
"Good luck!" said a guy who had a smug expression. He was wearing a jacket with Easton High's logo on it. Ignoring his expression, I gave him a bright, but more like a forced smile. "Thank you!" I said, in the fakest voice I could manage. As we went back into the hall, I knew that he was up to something, but I shook it off, but still kept a cautious eye out. Two minutes later, hearing a notification sound from my phone, I turned on to see a 5 second voice message from Derek. Looking around for any eavesdroppers, I put the speaker close to my ear but all I heard was disturbance. You know? The one of a broken old television set? But amidst that, I caught a few words.
"Out....not safe....go"
"Leave your phones here, please!" Miss Marlow said, loud enough for our group to hear. Knowing that I had no choice but to do so, I locked my phone and gave it to Miss Marlow who smiled in encouragement. "You guys got this!!"
Backstage
Huddled into a group until our name was going to be called. "Next up, we have: SUNBROOKE HIGH!" said the anchor's voice along with a series of applause. Right before we were going to open the curtain, hushed whispers followed right behind our group. "What! How did that happen!" I heard Lovey whisper-shriek. "What happened! Why aren't we going up yet?" I asked, turning my face towards them in split second. "Someone spoilt the lighting! And it'll be fixed only after 20 minutes!" said Leo.
Not knowing what the delay was, Miss Marlow came behind us with an angry face. "What are you doing! Get on!" she whispered. "The lighting's broken." said Lovey. "You cannot do anything about it now! Get on! Now!" and we got into positions, with the girls right where the curtains open, and the boys into their positions at the side, hidden until their song came on.
The intro of Gloves Up started up.
Up purrrup, put ya, put ya, put ya gloves up, up purrrup, put 'em all the way upUp purrrup, put ya, put ya, put ya gloves up, boy, you better put 'em high
In the dark, I caught two faces at the back, sniggering. One face was the one who wished us good luck. Trying not to take any notice, I continued.
Right before, the chorus when I realized that in the darkened room, the dance seemed empty without the lighting. I knew I had to do something. Taking a deep breath, I waited for the second before the words: "I, I got my eyes on the prize" began, before letting soft light from behind us. Hearing gasps from the audience, I let go completely, feeling warmth spread around us.
Another gasp, and I saw soft blue light shining as well. The mixer between the two songs started playing, before transitioning into "Glowing in the Dark". Feeling a hand on my shoulder (part of the routine of course), I felt a wave of coolness hit me as I saw Leo next to me.
We're glowing in the dark, we started from a spark, we're lights that never go out, like we've never been down
And all this while, I could do nothing but let my feet move, my eyes fixed on his.
