I put out my hand to touch the canvas. To my photo's right, there was my mom with the most beautiful smile, and on the left, dad with the happiest eyes. "This is the second school to be built on the land. Twelve years ago, it was named Eden High School and the 14th Anniversary day event was being held. This hall consists of portraits of the bravest people who were present at that time. They helped to save all the remaining people who were there, not even thinking about themselves. But the three main people who died were-" read a random person. "Leo and Janice Callisto." I said, finally finding my voice. "But it says that even their daughter died! And she was only-" said the person. But I interrupted her. "Six years old. I know. I remember. But the only thing is, she didn't die." I said, and finally a tear rolled down my cheek, but I didn't allow anyone to see it. "I survived." I said at last.
"Now! What's the fuss here!" said an angry voice at the entrance to the hall. It had become so quiet, so I could hear footsteps behind me. "Why are you all crowded here!" the footsteps stopped next to me. "Now who are you and why are you standi-" the voice was now directed to me, but stopped abruptly. "But h-how?" it said, stuttering. I finally turned to look at the person next to me, and I saw the person who used to make laugh a lot. "K-KC? You're, you're alive?" he said, in disbelief. "But, but you- I thought- oh Kiara!" and he hugged me. "Hi, Uncle Wizinski!" I whispered, quite involuntarily. "You remember!" he said, and wiped his eyes. "I thought that my favorite niece was well, dead, oh but look how much you've grown!" he said. Uncle William was an old friend of dad's, and if dad wasn't there, he always used to cheer me up. But I realized that there was still a crowd around us. I knew I had to leave. "Uncle, I'll talk to you when school begins. I need to go." I said and broke from his hug and walked out. Picking up the skateboard I had left at the entrance to school, I let tears fall as I went back home. "Emotional status: dropping." said the robotic voice in my ear. "What's wrong Kiara?" Lexi asked me. "I'll be seeing the place where my parents died for a very long time Lex!" I said. "Oh Kiara! You need to get home right now!" she said. "I know!" I said. "How much more time till I reach?" I asked, and wiped my eyes with one hand. "Two minutes." she said. "Hang in there." she said.
When I reached home, I went straight to the roof and all the tears that I had held in for 12 years left me. I couldn't hear any sounds at all; it was just me drifting around the memories of my parents. I knew I was acting very immature, but I couldn't help it. I don't how much time passed, but then I felt something cold around me. I opened my eyes and saw a string of water surrounding me. "Hey." I whispered. I already knew who it was. "Hi." whispered the soft voice of Leo. "I heard what happened back there." he said. I nodded slowly. "I'm sorry." he said. "Don't be. I'm acting very childish" I said and broke down again. He pulled me close and I put my arms around him. He put his head on mine. "Everyone needs to let it out. It's alright." he said. What he said, for some reason, really comforted me. And before I knew it, I was asleep, right there.
Several hours later, I woke up on something soft. I opened my eyes to see that I was on my bed. I got out and stretched my arms. "Lexi, what time is it?" I asked with a yawn. "6:30 pm, Kiara." she said from my table where my watch was. "6:30!? What happened to afternoon!?" I asked and went down the stairs. I peeked around the living room and saw Nate with his eyes closed on the couch. I tiptoed to the kitchen. "I can hear you!" said a voice from the hall. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up." I said as I took out a bottle of water. "You didn't. I was awake. Just concentrating on my power point." he said. "Come sit." he said. I sat next to him. "I heard what happened at the Hall of Portraits." he said. "Greg and I helped in setting up the Hall of Portraits." he said quietly. "What?!?" I turned to him, the water bottle almost flying in the air. "That's why Greg said you looked so familiar the first time we met you. He set up your portrait." he said. "But, I didn't know you then, so I had forgotten until I saw it again." he continued. "Hey, listen to me. You can always talk to us. We'll always be there for you." he said. "Thanks." I said and gave him a smile. "Up high?" he said and lifted his hand for a high five. I raised my eyebrow. "Don't leave me hanging!" he said. I laughed and gave it back. Then I realized something.
They made me feel at home, every time they're around.
