Chapter 17

My hair was black again. "I love my hair! It's amazing!" I said. "Then when does it turn pink?" he asked. "Leo...look at your hair." I said, and pointed to the top. "That explains it..." he said. "So, every time we use our power like properly..." I said. "Our hair color changes and lasts for a while!" we said together. "Uhh..hungry? I heard you skipped lunch..." he said. "Uh, yeah, a little." I said, and started walking out. "What were you doing up there since breakfast anyway?" he asked, walking behind me. "Well, nothing much." I said. To be honest, I wanted to surprise them with Lexi later on. After having something to eat, I was on my way back up to my room when I heard someone call me. "Hey! KC! Come here! I wanna show you something!" It was Nate's voice coming from the basement. I walked down to the basement to see Nate lying flat on the ground, facing upward, fixing something. "Nate...what are you doing?" I said and bent down. "I, am checking if everything here, is working properly." he said. I got back up and realized that he was fixing a bike. "Where did even get this?" I asked, and walked around the bike. "Oh, chief had some old bikes and I asked if I could borrow some. Now, I wanted to show you something right? Watch this." he said and got up, pushed a button on the bike. A holographic screen popped up. "Holographic? Cool." I said. "There are a lot of things that I added, but..." he stopped. "But...?" I asked, urging him to continue. "But, I kinda have some other stuff to do, so I can't take it for a test drive..." he said, and smirked. "You're kidding?" I asked, raising my eyebrow. "Or, if you can't i'll just ask Greg!" he said and walked towards the elevator. "No! I'll do it!" I stopped him. He turned round a smiled. "Wouldn't dream of giving it to anyone else!" he said and walked towards the bike again. "So, what I've done is added upgrades almost matching the powers we've discovered until now." he tapped the front glass. "For example, we'll take Leo's powers. He's super fast. So, I've added aerodynamic tubing so that he can zoom faster than a normal bike. And it will go even faster because of his own powers. And your own powers, the bike needs to be light. I've changed the tires to lightweight ones, but they're still pretty strong. And everything I make always has a tracker." he said. "Here! Be careful. Call us if you need anything!" he said and tossed me a bunch of keys. "Thanks Nate! I'll just get my jacket and stuff!" I waved to him and went back up to my room to put on my commlink, jacket and watch. I was about to leave the room but i stopped. I needed one more thing.

I put on the contracted eye-mask, the one I had worn at the party. Back down in the basement, I pushed my hair and put on the helmet, and turned the key in. "Smooth, Nate." I said, and the engine was hardly making any sound. There was a pink light glowing in the corner, which I think meant that the lightweight tires were sort of activated kinda? "Lexi? You online?" I said, as I drove out of the basement. "Affirmative. What do you need Kiara?" she asked me. "Nothin. Just checking if you're working." I said. "Attention! Incoming call from Nathaniel Anderson." she said when I was out of reach from the path to the house. "Hey Nate! What's wrong?" I asked, but concentrated on the road. "I just wanted to tell you that I found the perfect spot for you to try out the features I added. There's a sort of empty area a little far away. It's completely hidden from any building and things. So you can try them out! I've sent it to the glass screen." he said, and went off. A map popped out and there was a pink star , marking my movement on the bike. By that time, I had already reached the crowded streets. On one side, there was group of people in party clothes on their way to a club probably?? And on the other side, a new building or something was being constructed. The area of construction was very large, and one pathway was open right under the crane. The crane was holding one of the materials, when a man's angry voice started from behind the steel walls. "YOU IDIOT! WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENS WHEN YOU DROP A CUP OF COFFEE ON THE CONTROL BOX HUH? ANSWER ME!" said the voice. "Lookout ma'am!!" said another voice, this time from across the street where I was driving on. I turned to my right to see an old lady pushing a baby's stroller, right under a bunch of pipes about to fall straight on her! I mean, I could not sit there and do nothing...right?

It was like my mind already knew what it wanted to do. My bike still moving, I activated my mask, which covered my eyes, and I pointed my hand towards the fastest pipe that was hurtling down. Involuntarily, a ball of sparkling pink fire shot out of my hand, and pushed the pipe away from the lady. My bike was still on remember? I was shot out of my seat as the bike hit a rock and I heard a beeping sound...
