Chapter 40

"I think we're late for that!" Leo whispered to me. "Yup." I said. The crowd, other than Amaya had already disappeared since we had stopped. "Hey! Uh, welcome! What brings you to New York?" I asked her trying not to make it too obvious . But she just raised her eyebrow. "That's not going to work. She already knows." said Leo and nudged me. "Even though you may not look like my best friend, I can still come to know it's you cuz I CAN IDENTIFY YOUR FRIKIN VOICE!" she said angrily, moving her hands like she always does. "Worth a shot." I said nervously. "I didn't want you to find out like this though." I trailed off. "Well, how about you give an explanation AFTER I have a drink of water?" she said. I looked up at her, and saw her smiling. "Hey bestie." she said. I immediately pulled her into a hug. "I've missed you." I said as we held each other tight. "Me too!" she said. "Ahem! I hate to break the reunion, but we really need to get back. Greg just texted me. Come on!" he said. "Oh uh, Amaya, this is Leo. We would remove our masks right now, but you know, we're outside, so..." I said, pointing my hands to the surroundings. "Of course!!"

So the three of us went home, Amaya telling us about the taxi driver to the wrong road to our house.

"Welcome to your home for a few days!!"  I said, dramatically. "Damn, even I haven't seen you so excited for something!" said Leo, whose statement earned a hard punch from me. "OW!!" he said like a little kid. "Get your mask off dork!" I said, shaking my head. "He's a real dork." I said and took off my mask. "Well, i think he's a really nice person to be around with!" she said and I nodded in agreement. "Where the hell are Greg and Nate?" I said, and stood at the foot of the stairs. "GREG!!! NATE!!! ARE YOU GUYS COMING!?!?!?" I shouted.

"Seriously, do you always have to shout? You could've told Lex-" Greg began but stopped in his tracks when he saw Amaya next to me. "Woah I-" he stuttered. "Man up!" Leo whispered to Greg. "I-i Hi! You must be be, uh, Amaya!" he said and held out his hand. But Amaya swatted it away and pulled him into a hug, and pulled Leo along with her. "WOAH!" he said, surprised by her strength. "Of course!" I said and shook my head. Nate came down a second later. "Hey! No body said anything about a group hug!" he shouted, clearly not knowing that Amaya was there. This time, he pulled me along with him, put his arms around us, and lifted us. "WOAH! WHAT THE-" Amaya shouted after which made Nate realize that she too was part of the hug. "Holy- I'm so sorry!" he said and put us down. "Why were you guys hugging anyway?" he asked.

"I wanted to thank you guys for taking care of my girl here all this while! And what's better than giving a hug!!!" she said, happily. "Hi! My name is Amaya! Great to meet you!" she said.  "You're the Amaya KC never shuts up about!" said Nate, earning a glare from me. "Nice to meet you, I'm Nathaniel!" he continued. "And you've met my little brother Greggory!"  he said, pulling Greg and ruffled his hair. "Yeah uh... Nice to meet you too Greg!" she said and blushed. My mouth hung open as it was the first time I had seen Amaya ACTUALLY blush!!! "What's wrong?" whispered Leo to me. "Nothing, it's like the first time Amaya actually blushed!" I said in surprise. "There's a first time for everything..." he whispered again, this time, coming closer, and when that happened, I could feel the heat rushing to my own cheeks. "So, uh what's with all of your powers and stuff?" she asked as no one else spoke.
"Well, remember the party on the first few..." and we told her how we got our powers, what happens when we lose control and so on. "Woah i- that's a LOT to take in!" she said. "Yeah, well, it's been a long day. You should take some rest. We've got one more day of school tomorrow." I said and stretched my hands. "And we should start packing our suitcases as well. We're leaving for the airport in a couple of days!" said Leo, before zooming up the stairs. "HE'S SO CUTEEE!!" Amaya mouthed to me. "SHUT UP!!" I mouthed back as we went back to my room, where Amaya was gonna stay.
