Mac's POV
After the ambulance takes Riley's body away they ask me to answer some questions. They let Mia come for the sole purpose that she has no other family here right now. "Can you explain what happened please?" The officer asks me. "We went to bed last night and Riley, my wife, had talked about being worried about what if something happened to us or someone back home. I reassured her everything would be fine and we both went to sleep. Her sister, Mia the one who came with us, woke up this morning and found Riley dead in the bathroom." I say. Mia is still crying but not as hard. I feel bad for her. I can tell she hurts. Right now it hasn't hit me I'm just numb and shocked. "Thank you. I'm very sorry for your loss." The officer says. They leave and Mia asks if we can go home. I book the next flight to LAX and we talk to the resort letting them know we are gonna leave. I call Matty.
Matty: Hello Mac, aren't you and your girls on vacation.
Me: Matty........ Riley......
Matty: Mac what happened?
Me: Riley's gone....
Matty: What do you mean? Did she get kidnapped?
Me: No, they said they think she committed suicide.
Matty: oh my god........ Mac-
Me: Look Matty I'll explain more when we get home can you just call Jack and ask him to meet us at the airport at 4.
Matty: Yea...... Mac take care please....
Me: I will. Goodbye.
I hang up and we head to the bus that goes to the airport. I'd be lying if I said it hit me. I still feel numb and continued to feel numb the whole way home. When we get home Jack is at the gate. "Mac, what happened?" Jack asked. "She's gone...." I say. "What? Did someone-" Jack starts. "They ruled it a suicide." I say. Jack just looks at me for a minute in total shock. "No. Riley wouldn't..... that's impossible......" Jack says. "Yea...." I say unsure of what to do. "Um..... let's go home." Jack says. Once we get home Riley's mom hugs Mia as she cries. "What's wrong?" She asks confused, "where's Riley?" "She died. They ruled it as a suicide...." I say. Riley's mom just cries and hold Mia in her arms. Jack and Riley's mom decided to stay the night to help with the twins and Mia. Jack would never admit to it but I heard him crying on the deck last night. I walk into our bedroom and see a picture of me and Riley on a mission before we were dating. Everything comes crashing down in that moment. I cried for a solid hour. I just stared at pictures of us together then I see something in one of the pictures. Me and Riley started a tradition after the twins were born. We would take a sharpie and write our initials with a heart around them on our wrists. Then it hits me. I watched Riley redraw it yesterday morning because hers was fading. Her wrist this morning didn't have the heart.
