The morning after, the soldiers had joined with the British tanks and headed toward the bridge they were instructed to take. Many of Easy Company rode atop of the tanks to save energy for the fighting ahead of them. Judith yawned as she rested her head against Joes leg. The two were on the same tank, with Joe above her.
He allowed her to rest as much as she needed as the journey was the only chance she would get until the next night. Bills eyes glanced toward the pair, noting her arm wrapped around his leg, he nudged Babe who also glanced before they shared a smile with a knowing look.
Monique and Don sat toward the back of that tank, with Penkala and Muck as they all shared food between them. Picking the things they did and didn't like. It was rather useful actually as someone always had what someone else liked, it became a good system between the four. Once they had let Luz in on it, the man simply took the things he liked without giving back so the four cornered him and took the food back to which he simply laughed, explaining that he wanted to see how long it took them to figure it out and come after him.
Joyce rode with Bull, the two sat side by side as the bumpy road jolted them here and there as some of the men tried to eat. Though her appetite was pretty much gone. On the side of the road was a woman, not any woman, but one from the town celebration. One that had slept with the Germans. Her hair was shaven badly, all patchy, her face was covered in sadness as she held a small child, no older than 6 months in her arms.
Before anyone could stop her the medic slid off of the tank, stumbling slightly as her feet hit the ground but she stabled herself before holding out the K-ration in her hand to the woman. Hesitantly, she took it with a thanking smile and nod of her head. The medics eyes brimmed with tears as she looked at the woman and her child, that child now would be deemed as a demon child probably. The creation of a German man.
"Joy, come on." Bull yelled.
"I'm sorry." Joyce told the woman before running back to the tank she had been on, Hoobler and Webster pulling her up again.
For the rest of the journey her head was kept down as she carried on thinking of the woman and her baby. Hoobler snapped her out of it as in her ears he had yelled something about General Patton, so she lifted her head.
Sure enough the man stood in the open looking into the small village ahead of them. Bull climbed down from his spot slightly, leaning on part of the tank.
"Lieutenant!" Bulls voice was loud, cutting through the silence and the rumbling engines of the tanks.
As General Patton turned he collapsed as he had been shot directly in the neck. Yells for snipers emerged from the Company as they scrambled off the tanks and into the ditch on the other side to take cover from the shooters, the tanks aimed at the small German car which was a little ways off.
As Joyce went to try aid Patton she was pushed back into cover by another medic, who sped into the open. Before they had killed all the Germans emerging from the now blown up car, one of them shot the other medic. He clutched his leg as he squirmed on the floor but then Joyce ran to tend to him along with Roe.
Judith and Joe ran together, sticking close to one another as they followed their platoon members into the small village. Something felt eerie about this to her, she didn't like it. It was too quiet. Bill, Joe, Judith and Luz were behind a house with some others before pushing forward slightly.
Monique stuck with Buck Compton, where Shifty was also sticking to surprisingly. But she didn't mind, in fact it gave her some company to have her fellow sniper friend beside her in combat. Along with that, Don and the other two were with them. All of them prepared for a gun fight.
