♣♣♣

Judith was stopped by Winters as they walked in a straight line through a field and he held his canteen to her mouth so she could drink. Part of him didn't want her to give herself water as if she did then perhaps she would see the bloody hands and have a breakdown before entering the state she had been in when he first seen her. Over a period of time, the grief of killing someone seemed to lessen. After she had drank a little they carried trudging through the water one after the other as Judiths eyes were trained on the mans helmet in front of her. Toward the back of the line she could hear Bill talking to Joe in anger about Winters stopping him from shooting the Krauts calling him a "Quaker".

After a while of walking Lipton grabbed Judiths jacket and pulled her down to crouch as they came to a half in front of a ruined wooden house with dead soldiers both American and German. Steam still smoked from certain areas as parachutes hung from surrounding trees. Judiths eyes were trained in the American soldier with his leg bent from the parachute wires as he hung from the tree. She wondered how much pain he had experienced before he was finally out of his misery.

"Lipton, Wynn!" Winters directed them to go ahead and check it out whilst the others stayed behind.

Once given the all clear the men began searching the bodies of the dead soldiers taking anything they could really find on them such as ammo or general supplies. Judiths eyes were trained in the man hanging and all she could picture was any of the others in Easy Company in the same position. Then noises interrupted them from their scrounging causing every one of them to look to the sky.

The landings had started. Judith took a deep breath in before starting to follow when she heard Guarnere tell Malarkey to shut his trap.

"His brother got it at Cassino. Found out before we jumped." Malarkey told Hall.

Judiths heart shattered for the man. To find out his brother had died just before he went to the front lines must be devastating and incredibly hard to cope with especially when fighting the same men who killed his brother. Winters also overheard it, feeling slight guilt for yelling at Bill before as he knew the kind of pain he was going through was hard to deal with.

Bill led the group. He led them the whole way, finally they marched up a sludgy path of drenched mud towards a farm and as they did they passed a bunch of German prisoners who must've been holding out at the farm when the Americans got there. Judiths hand lingered over the handle of her bayonet as if ready to pull it out but Toye put a hand on hers and led her onwards past them. She was ready for them to charge at her like the man from the forest.

Once she passed her hand relaxed back onto her gun as she trudged forwards through the mud, behind her she heard Malarkey taunt the soldiers and laugh. Trust him to not be serious. A small smile made its way onto her face from his antics as she walked side by side with Toye. Winters and Bill let the little squad into the farm, past a pile of dead horses and they walked further on into the farm. Many company's were here and so far none of Easy. Judiths heart dropped as did her head, were they the only ones ?
