"Let go of my arm your hurting me" she said trying to pull away from me, I can see the defiance in her eyes, the fire of her anger burning bright despite the fear that flickers beneath the surface. But I can't let her go, not now, not when the rage boils hot in my veins.
"I should fucking break it, answer the damn question" I tighten my grip, feeling her struggle against me
"Y-Your father" she said, snatching her hand from me
"What makes you think you're worthy enough to wear my mother's ring " I said, As I watch her gently rubbing her wrist.
"Coming from the man that wasn't worthy enough to pass it along" she said holding her wrist and leaving
I went back into the house looking for my father. As I weave through the crowded party, my frustration mounts with each passing moment. The din of laughter and music fills the air, but all I can hear is the pounding of my own heartbeat. My jaw clenches with pent-up anger as I scan the sea of faces, searching desperately for my father.
"Enjoying the party" A drunk Adriano said walking up to me with a girl on his arm and a drink in his hand
"You shouldn't be drinking that shit your fucking 17 dumbass, you have class in the morning" I said smacking the drink out his hand
"Fuck you Caesar!" he yelled making everyone look at us. I pushed passed him and continued walking to my father's office. Every passing moment feels like an eternity, each step forward a battle against the rising tide of frustration and resentment.
"How dare you?" I was said walking into his office
"Don't you have guest to entertain" he said not even taking his eyes off his computer, My gaze falls upon the familiar sight of my father's desk, cluttered with papers and files.
"You talking about your fake ass friends...no thank you"
"You know them fake ass friends are the ones who help make us money, show some fucking respect" he said finally looking up at me.
"Let's not talk about respect..you had the nerve to give that bitch my mother's ring" I said and my father stood up from his seat
"That bitch is your wife, and watch your fucking tone when you talk to me" he said
"She's not-"
"Shut the fuck up and listen for once in your damn life. She's your wife..and your mother wanted that ring to go to the next woman of this family. Now here's what your going to do your going to go back to that party and you and Shanice are going to act like a happy married couple while I talk to the other families" he said calmly. Despite his outward calmness, there's a simmering anger simmering just beneath the surface, evident in the rigid set of his jaw.
"This won't work" I said
"Don't mess this shit up" he said pushing passed me
"Do you think Caesar is ready to lead this family?"
"How does it feel to be a Moretti?"
"Do you think you can fill the shoes from the last Donna?"
As the questions come at me from all directions, I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of words, each one crashing against me with relentless force, my mind races to keep up.
"So can when can we expect some babies from you guys?"
"Excuse me what?" I said taken back by that last question
Everytime I look around for Caesar he's at the bar drinking. I've been doing everything that Elias said about mingling with the guest. But it's hard to answer questions that I don't know the answer too. As I continued to get bombarded with questions I saw Caesar go upstairs from the corner of my eye.
"I'm so sorry, will you excuse me" I said leaving the lady and following him upstairs
He was stumbling into the room and he almost fell until I caught him. Despite the resentment that festers in the pit of my stomach, I can't help but feel a twinge of pity for him.
"Get the fuck off of me" he said pushing me back, I stumble backward from the force of his push.
"I was just trying to help your drunk ass..also what the hell is your problem. You act like your the only one suffering here" I said
"You don't know what suffering is" he said, I watch him stumble and sway.
"If this doesn't work I die...and I didn't do shit to deserve this. I had a life..and your father took that away from me. You say I don't know what suffering is..everyday I'm here alone I'm reminded of that suffering." I said
"From what heard this is an upgrade from that shit show you call and life." he said, his words slur together in a jumble of incomprehensible sounds. With each stumble, I can see the frustration mounting in his eyes.
Calm down Shanice he's drunk, he doesn't know what he's talking about. I was one step away from losing my shit.
"Your drunk you don't know what your talking about" I said clenching my fist
"You sure about that, from what I heard you were Roscoe's bottom bit-"
I punched him, hitting him hard, but as soon as I felt his body jerk from the impact, I froze. The fear pulsing through my veins. Without a word, I turned and fled from the room before he could even react, my heart pounding in my chest as I raced away, desperate to escape the consequences of my actions. Once I made back to the party I stopped running and started speed walking constantly looking over my shoulder. Not looking where I was going I ended up bumping into someone.
"I'm so sorry" the man said, he steadies me with a quick hand, a surprised look on his face.
"No I'm sorry I should have been paying attention" I said fixing my dressed
"I'm Kendrick, I'm re-designing the gallery for the Moretti's" he said holding out his hand
"Shanice" I said shaking his hand
He's a handsome black man with a neatly trimmed beard that adds a touch of rugged charm to his refined appearance. He's dressed in a sharp suit that fits him perfectly, the deep color complementing his complexion beautifully. And as he moves, there's a subtle scent of cologne that lingers in the air, a pleasant aroma that adds to his allure. With his confident demeanor and well-groomed appearance, he exudes a sense of sophistication and confidence that's impossible to ignore. Something about him was different though, he gave off a different vibe than everyone else at the party. He looked like a good guy but even I knew with the people at this party not to trust it.
"Trust me I know who you are, were all celebrating you tonight" he said
"Thanks" I said looking down
"A beautiful woman like yourself should never have her head to the ground" he said smiling at me and I smiled back
"Thank you, your really sweet" I said
"Why do I have a feeling you don't want to be here" he asked
"What gave it away" I chuckled
"Do you want to get out of here, and talk somewhere private" he asked
At first I was skeptical, than I noticed Caesar at the top of the stairs holding his mouth scanning the room.
"Yes please" I said taking his hand and walking out of the party
