"Shanice, Devon doesn't know we're coming for him, so I need it to be business as usual. You have a meeting with him this afternoon at his club," I said, my voice firm.
"Dad, I don't think she should go alone. I can go with her," Caesar interjected, concern etched on his face.
"Seeing what happened the last time, no. I need you to finalize some stuff at the gym. I need it open for business ASAP," I replied, shaking my head. "Lelani, Devon is gonna be looking for you. I know you two have a past. I'm going to respect your privacy, but you're not allowed to leave this house alone."
"This is crazy! I can handle myself," she protested, her eyes blazing with defiance.
"Enzo will be here with you. If you need to leave, he will follow. Understand?" I said, my tone leaving no room for argument. Lelani stormed out of the room, her frustration palpable.
"Yes, sir," Enzo said, hurrying after her.
"Athena and I are gonna handle Stefan. Everyone knows what to do. I will have extra security around the kids' school," I said as Shanice and Caesar nodded and left the room.
"What about me?" Adriano asked, stepping forward, his jaw set.
"You will make sure the kids are okay at the house. If they need anything—"
"You're putting me on babysitting duty?" he said, cutting me off, his eyes flashing with anger.
"This is not your fight," I said, trying to stay calm.
"Are you fucking serious right now? I thought we were past this. But I guess not. You're still pushing me to the side like always. You think I'm weak, but you're wrong about me, and I'm going to prove it," he said, storming out of the room, slamming the door behind him. Athena walked in, her expression one of understanding.
"It's not his fault, you know," Athena said softly.
"He shouldn't be involved in this. He's still a kid," I replied, running a hand through my hair.
"And Stefan is still his father, yet he hasn't said anything to Stefan. He knows the risks, and he's still choosing to help, and you keep pushing him away," she said, her voice calm but firm.
"I can handle my son," I said, my voice tight with frustration.
"Fine. So what are we going to do about Stefan?" she asked, changing the subject.
"I'll tell you in the car," I said, grabbing my keys and heading toward the door. Athena followed, her eyes filled with determination.
