"You two, boy I tell you, you have no idea what you've done," I said, pacing back and forth, trying to contain my frustration.
"Dad, we—"
"Shut the hell up," I snapped, cutting him off mid-sentence.
"You know, I had a rookie cop come to my home and basically tell me he's gunning for us," I said, my voice trembling with anger.
"We just have to be more careful," Caesar said, his voice shaky.
"He has a warrant for our financials, and you two just agreed to give Devon fucking Jackson access to our ports," I yelled, shoving the warrant at Caesar. He began to read it, his face turning pale.
"Elias, I'm so sorry," Shanice said, her voice barely a whisper.
"And on top of that, you have a witness who's a child. What if she tells her parents?" I asked, the weight of the situation pressing down on me.
"She looked homeless, Dad. We found her hiding in the place. I don't know if maybe her relatives were some of the people we killed, but she was the only one left in the building," he said, his voice full of regret.
"Here's what we're going to do: we're going to nip this shit in the bud quick. Shanice, find the kid. Caesar, you're coming with me. We're going to find out what's the deal with this cop," I said, my voice firm with determination.
"What do you want me to do when I find her?" Shanice asked, looking anxious.
"Bring her to the warehouse and call us," I said, just as my phone rang.
Ring Ring
"What?" I answered, my patience wearing thin.
"Hey, is this Elias Moretti?" a young voice asked.
"Yes, it is," I said, trying to keep my composure.
"It's Annalise, Athena's daughter. Have you heard from her? She's not answering my calls. And she told me if anything was to happen to her to call you," she said, her voice trembling.
"I saw her earlier today. I'm going to send someone to pick you up, and I'm going to check on your mother, okay?" I said, trying to sound reassuring.
"Okay, thank you," she said, hanging up.
I quickly texted Adriano the address to Annalise's school.
"Come on, you're driving," I said to Caesar, my voice urgent.
"Where are we going?" he asked, looking confused.
"To check on Athena. I left her with Lelani, and I have a feeling something's wrong," I said to him, my gut twisting with worry.
