"Here she is, boss," Max said, pushing Athena into my office.
Athena stumbled slightly, regaining her balance quickly as she glared at Max and then at me. I leaned back in my chair, smirking as I poured myself a drink.
"One thing I can honestly say about you is that you're a woman full of surprises. Twins, huh? Who would have thought? And then you end up getting your son killed and now you're sacrificing yourself to save the daughter that hates you... mother of the fucking year," I said, lifting my glass in a mock toast before taking a sip.
"I know you didn't bring me in here to talk about how I've failed as a parent," she replied, her voice steady despite the tension in her body.
"You're right... you want a drink?" I asked her, swirling the amber liquid in my glass.
"No," she said curtly.
"Well, for what you're gonna be doing tonight, I'm pretty sure you don't want to be sober," I said, savoring another sip of my drink.
"Do as you wish; it's not like anybody is gonna come looking for me anyway," she said, her tone defiant.
"Oh, trouble in paradise... I'm guessing Elias didn't take well to you hiding his son from him. Your family must hate you right now... is that why you came here... to die?" I asked, leaning forward, my eyes locking onto hers.
"Can we just get this over with?" she said, her voice edged with impatience.
"I think you've mistaken... if I wanted to kill you, I would've done it years ago. If it wasn't for me, you would be spending the rest of your life in prison right now. You are indebted to me, and you're about to pay up," I said, reaching out to touch her cheek.
"Don't fucking touch me," she snapped, smacking my hand away.
In a flash, I grabbed her by the neck, squeezing it tightly. Her eyes widened in shock, and she struggled to breathe.
"Keep that fight in you, Athena... the guys will love it," I said, finally letting her go. She fell to her knees, coughing and gasping for air.
"Max, get her changed and ready for tonight. I don't want to keep the guys waiting," I ordered, turning back to my drink.
"Yes, sir," Max replied, grabbing Athena by the arm and dragging her out of the office.
I watched them leave, a satisfied smile playing on my lips. Tonight was going to be interesting.
