He was gonna hurt him... What the hell have I done? How do I keep getting myself deeper in? I've been in this family long enough to know better, and I'm already making mistakes like this. Elias is gonna kill me.

"Shanice, what the hell?" Caesar said, holding his side. I instantly ran to him, helping him walk.

"I know I messed up. He was hurting you. What did you expect me to do, let him break your arm?" I said, my voice rising in frustration. He stopped, turning to look at me with pain and anger in his eyes.

"Yes... yes, I expected you to let that happen. You know better," he said, and I looked at him, shocked.

"Excuse me?" I said, my voice trembling with disbelief.

"As my wife, you're gonna have to make tough decisions. My father taught you that," he said, and I pushed him away from me. He winced in pain but stood his ground.

"I saved your life, asshole," I yelled, feeling the heat of anger and fear mix inside me.

"And look what it cost you. We work for him now. I appreciate the save, but this can't happen again," he said, his voice stern.

"Says the man who lost his cool," I shot back.

"Amber didn't deserve what they did to her," he said, and I rolled my eyes, trying to mask my hurt.

"So you're saying if roles were reversed, you would have let them kill me?" I asked, feeling a knot tighten in my stomach.

"I told you to stay in the car," he said, his voice cold and distant.

"Wow," I said, shocked by his answer, feeling a wave of disappointment wash over me.

"My father saw something in you that I didn't. And honestly, I'm sorry for the way that I have been treating you. I understand that this family can be a lot, and instead of fighting with you, I should have been helping you. You care about people, and in this business, that has to come out of the equation. I'm really trying to be better... I want to be better. I'm going to help and support you through this," he said, his voice softening, his eyes showing a glimmer of sincerity.

"Your father's gonna kill me," I said, my voice barely above a whisper, feeling the weight of our situation pressing down on me.

"When I was a kid, my father used to tell me that behind every great man is an even greater woman, and behind a great king is his queen. And not only are the Moretti women beautiful in this family, but they're also savages, and they don't take shit from anyone. And they're not scared of anyone either," he said, a hint of pride in his voice.

"So what are we going to do?" I asked, my resolve strengthening, looking into his eyes for some reassurance.

"I'm gonna need you to trust me," he said, holding out his hand. I looked at it for a moment, then took it, feeling a tentative hope flicker inside me.
