As we walked through the sterile, echoing halls of the hospital, Shanice's hesitant voice broke the silence. "Are you sure you wanna do this? I thought the last time you saw her, she kicked you out."
I kept my eyes forward, focused on the task at hand. "I know, but Elias is literally on a killing spree, and she's the only one who can stop him," I replied, my voice laced with urgency.
Shanice grabbed my arm, stopping me in my tracks. "Look, I think this is a bad idea."
I turned to face her, frustration bubbling up. "What other choice do I have? No one is listening to me. Elias is going around killing all of Stefan's associates, trying to find answers, and Ezra is following his trail, trying to send him to prison. And on top of that, Annalise is pissed at me because I won't let her see Athena," I said, running a hand through my hair in exasperation.
"Caesar is trying to stop Elias too, but he said if Elias starts killing the wrong people, it's gonna be a problem," Shanice said, her voice full of concern.
"Athena is the only one who can talk to him," I insisted, starting to walk again.
"But what if she doesn't want to? She hasn't even seen him since that night," Shanice argued, her voice tinged with doubt.
"I have to take that chance, or people are gonna start dying," I said, determination pushing me forward as we approached Athena's room. My heart pounded in my chest as I pushed the door open, only for her bed to be empty. Confusion and panic set in immediately.
"Excuse me, nurse," I called out to a passing nurse, trying to keep the anxiety out of my voice. "Do you have an update on Athena Brown?"
The nurse glanced at her chart briefly before answering, "Ms. Brown checked herself out two days ago." With that, she walked away, leaving us standing in the middle of the room, stunned.
"What are we supposed to do now?" Shanice asked, her voice a mix of frustration and fear.
I stared at the empty bed, my mind racing. "We have to find her. If Athena checked herself out, she must have gone somewhere she feels safe. If she doesn't stop Elias, the bloodshed will only get worse. We don't have much time."
