(This takes place during the previous chapter: "Truth Serum Antidote")
"Ok guys" Ellie turned to Ruddiger and Athena "i'm gonna be out for a while, i'm heading up to the city, i'm entrusting both of you to watch over Varian and make sure he gets some rest"
She handed Ruddiger a list.
"Bye guys, i'll be back in a few hours" she said before heading out the door.
Varian was sick due to an extreme truth serum overdose.
Ellie was hard at work trying to find the ingredients for the antidote.
So it was up to Ruddiger and Athena to take care of him.
Ruddiger looked over the list:
□ change towel every 20 minutes
□ Make sure he eats something
□ Do NOT wake him up unless completely necessary!!
Ruddiger and Athena went up to Varian's room.
He was fast asleep.
Ruddiger curled up into a ball under one of Varian's arms.
He didn't like seeing his best friend like this.
Suddenly Ruddiger ran down to the kitchen.
The list said Varian had to eat something so they were gonna work on that.
In less then 10 minutes Ruddiger had made a sandwich and poured a glass of water for Varian.
He very carefully got it onto his bedside table.
He then jumped onto Varian's bed and rubbed his nose up against his hand.
"Wh-wha.." Varian sat up.
Ruddiger chittered happily.
"Oh...hey buddy..." Varian said, sounding really sleepy.
Ruddiger gestured towards the food.
Varian looked over and laughed a little.
"Thanks guys" he said.
Ruddiger made a sad noise.
And Varian could tell it was cause he was worried.
"Don't worry about me buddy, i'll be fine" he said before wincing in pain.
Ruddiger was very worried now, and even Athena made a sad whimpering noise.
"I-i'm fine really" Varian laughed nervously.
Ruddiger clearly didn't believe him.
"There's no getting away with it when i'm like this is there?" He laughed nervously.
The truth serum didn't stop the person from being able to lie but it did make it extremely painful to try and get away with.
"I hope Ellie has the antidote done soon.." he said.
Ruddiger chittered something.
"What do you mean 'do i trust her to get the recipe right'? Of course i do...besides i made the recipe kinda obvious" Varian laughed.
He looked on his bedside table at a picture of himself, Ellie, Ruddiger, and Athena that Rapunzel had painted.
"I'm gonna be honest, sometimes i trust her with my experiments more then i trust myself" he said with a smile.
"I mean have you seen the explosions i've made in the past!?" He laughed.
Ruddiger pushed Varian back so he would be laying down before moving the towel from his head and dipping it in a bucket of hot water before putting it back.
Varian smiled a little.
"I'm gonna go back to sleep for a bit guys i hope you dont mind" he said.
Ruddiger curled up under his arm again.
Varian moved his hand to be on Ruddiger's head before he fell asleep again.
