Elizabeth's Story BOOK 1: The Alchemist

The Memory Wand

Elizabeth's POV:

Today was gonna be a busy day.

Varian was coming over in an hour so we could head up to the city.

But he ended up picking me up a little earlier because we had to help Rapunzel with something.

The Saporians erased the king and queen's memories and we had to reverse it somehow.

We've been trying stuff for weeks.

We got them set up into the machine.

Then Ruddiger climbed into Varian's apron.

And...learn something new everyday.

Varian laughs like a mad scientist when he gets tickled.

Noted.

"Ok, ok" Varian laughs "Ruddiger get out of my apron that tickles!"

He then pulled the lever on the machine.

"Are you sure this is going to work?" Rapunzel asked.

"If my new machine works the way i think it should, and it will" Varian said "we are moments away from reversing the effects of the Saporians memory wand"

Seconds later the whole thing exploded.

"Woah!"

Suddenly the entire room was covered in pink goo.

Let's just say...the machine didn't work.

"I'm sorry Rapunzel, i-i was so sure this was gonna work" Varian said rubbing the back of his head "i feel like i've tried everything"

"You did your best" Rapunzel said "besides, i have another method up my sleeve, don't get me wrong the power of science is impressive but it is nothing compared to the power of love"

Suddenly there was another explosion.

Why was Ruddiger eating it?

Later

"So the memory thing didn't go quite as planned" i said as we were riding up to the city.

"Yeah, but something tells me Rapunzel is gonna find a way to fix this" Varian said.

"I hope so, you know i've been meaning to ask something" i said.

"I'm listening"

"How does that wand work anyway?" I asked.

"Well from what i was told it basically erases whatever you wish to forget" he said.

"What do you mean?"

"Well....take the king and queen for example, when their memories were erased what we had said was we wished they would forget everything, another example, Rapunzel, she told me how a while back Cass accidentally erased her memory of ever leaving her tower, it's complicated" he said.

I stopped to think for a minute.

"I have another question" i said.

He looked at me "yeah?"

"Before Rapunzel came back, you had me locked in that cell for a while" i said.

Varian had a look of guilt on his face.

"You had plenty of time, why did you never once attempt to erase my memory? I'm just wondering"

"It's a..uh...a long story" he said.

"We've got a while before we reach the city"

"Well...they wanted to....but....well...."

Varian's POV: 3 months ago

"Look, kid, all i'm saying is she's down there right now and she's already vulnerable, why don't we just go erase her memory now?" Andrew asked.

"I- well..." i tried to think of what to say.

"Wasn't she your girlfriend before you got locked up?" He asked.

"Well...yes but-" i said before he cut me off.

"And what did you say you did after you went bad?"

I sighed.

"I trapped her in a raccoon trap and hit her against a wall with an automaton" i said.

"And you think she'd forgive you for that?"

"Well-"

"Look kid, you can either do it now or wait till we drop the gas, i'm just saying if you want her to remember the good memories i would get it done and out of the way now" Andrew explained.

"But-"

"I'll give you some time to think about it kid, this one's your call" he said elbowing me in the shoulder.

What am i gonna do?

I don't want her to forget anything, honestly.

Maybe there's a way i can sneak her onto the ship when we drop the gas.

I'll think of something.

Elizabeth's POV: present day

"All that really happened?" I asked.

"Of course i felt guilty for acting the way i did with you but i would have felt even worse if you completely forgot everything. I thought it would be better to get you to forgive what i've done...then to make you forget" Varian explained.
