If you were the weather,
would you still be unpredictable?
A cool, spring day for a moment,
then a raging year-long storm,
tearing anything and anyone in its path
to ribbons.
You say you love me
just before locking your doors
and boarding up all the windows.
I never thought I could be this confused.
I never thought you would change so fast
but here we are.
I'm standing on your street.
I can see the tree we hid in
when we were twelve.
Now you're opening up your front door
to invite me in,
but I'm not sure what you'll say.
Your hair is a mess.
Did I wake you?
No... there's an Altima in the driveway.
You were just with her.
Even after everything she did
you took her back,
if only for one more heartbreak.
I remember you promising
that she was gone.
You two were over.
Said and done,
but she's laying in your bed at midnight
when you're supposed to be with me.
How many nights did I waste
asking you to come back to me?
Would you look over at all,
to see me waiting for you?
Or will you just change your mind,
calling her back to you over and over again?
