If I were a case of your favorite beer
would you have abandoned me
in the same cold, cruel way
or kept me tucked in on the shelf
in your bedroom?
Would I be collecting dust
or thrown out with the other trash
you dragged in?
If I were a model
would you love me for me
or let me be your trophy wife,
parading me around on your arm at parties
only to toss me aside
when the crowd dispersed?
If I were your favorite Mazda
would you show me off to all your friends?
Race me in the parking lot?
Would you keep me looking shiny and new
or let me crumble to dust
in the driveway?
If I were anything other than myself
would you have stayed?
