A week had passed. Now it was time for the final honor: her burial. I was at loss for words. We shared so many memories, fought so many times. Yet, none of us could see this ahead.
I was mourning for days now. I could not eat, could not be there for my baby. I was constantly crying about that little girl. She wanted to eat some ice cream when she got better. Delilah had not shared the bed with Combeferre since her death. Delilah would sleep in front of her door, in case she woke up crying, like all those years ago.
Of course, it would not happen. Madame Louisa was like a mother for her. It must have been so hard for her. The last time she saw Yvonne was right before she left for her family's house. Now she came back and Yvonne was gone.
Bastien had not slept since. I had not slept since. I just kept hearing her words over and over again. Annelise, you're here.
When I slept, I saw my mother sitting at her bedside. She was smiling and Yvonne was smiling as well. They were embracing each other.
Nothing could prepare me for this day. Bastien was dressed in all black, my family was also in their mourning clothes. Raphael had zoned out completely. He could not believe it. I have never seen him so distant. My grandmothers were holding hands to support each other.
Carrie and Gusta were holding hands and Martin and Finley were standing beside them. I was holding Timothy and Bastien held me in his arms.
She was so excited to see Timothy grow up. She would've been his best friend. He would now grow up, having memories of that little girl, whose smile could light up the entire room.
We were praying. The priest talked about how she was now with god. We followed the small casket to the burial place of our mother. She shall rest with her and the rest of us.
Yvonne Sofia Robillard was buried on August 30th, 1833.
