Enjolras POV

I went to sleep, only the light wind blew into the room. The trees were rustling and I could only think of Annelise. A beautiful girl, with a heart of gold. Ever since I started the little group of mine, Les Amis de l'abc, I became more careful.

I knew she wouldn't say anything about it but I was scared. What if she hated me? What if she would leave me? I wouldn't blame her though. I was a mess. I pretended to be alright in front of thousand prying eyes, but deep down I just wanted it to stop.

My life was complicated. And she would pay the price. I heard the talk of the maids of Maria. They all were talking about how I had a mistress and how Annelise would do anything in her power, to get rid of Maria. But Annelise didn't care about the crown. She didn't care that I was a Prince.

I smiled. The thought of Annelise sent butterflies. She was my true love. But I would never get to marry her. My father wouldn't allow it. I couldn't even get her a title. My Annelise, my beautiful Annelise.

That was the last thing in my mind before I doze off into an uneasy sleep.

***

I woke up with throbbing headaches. But nothing, fresh coffee couldn't cure. I looked outside. The sun was shining and the birds chirping. It was quite cold outside though. The lakes were frozen and my balcony was covered in snow.

I got out of bed and into my clothes for the day. I looked into the mirror and saw the dark circles under my eyes. Well, at least I looked better than I felt.

I made my way to greet my father, something that I always hated. I wanted to sneak away without people knowing about my whereabouts. That's when I accidentally stumbled into an audience between a stranger and my father.

"Your majesty, I ask for your consent to marry someone else.", a strange young man said.
"You have the consent."
"Thank you, your majesty."

The man left and I said my good mornings.

"Who was that, father?"
"The young Lad of our Knight. I think his name is Alexandre or something.", he said.

"Alright. I will be in town for the entire day."
"Why? Will you be with your mistress?"
"I do not have a mistress, father."
"Based on our last conversation, I believe you do."

I didn't know what to answer. I just scoffed and left the palace. I walked into the busy streets of Paris. I had to get to the Café quickly. Today would mark the day, history would change forever.

The Café isn't so far away. I remembered that I met Annelise here for the first time. That cute little girl, that wasn't dressed properly and her beautiful hair undone. I chuckled and continued my way inside. I opened the door and looked into my friends' face.

"Gentlemen, welcome to the first official meeting of the Les Amis."
