Enjolras POV

We were ordered by my father. He didn't sound too happy but if it was going to be quick, I would show Timothy some places that my mother showed me when I was his age.

Annelise was terrified. She had no good feelings regarding this letter. He wanted something. We knew that whatever it was, he could not have it. We reached the all too familiar palace. I helped them both out and we walked inside the palace.

"Son, glad to see you again. We must talk about how you will be King. As you may know, my health is not the best."
"I will not take the crown. I have a family. Just because I am the Crown Prince, does not mean I want this crown."

"But you should take it. It's all you've been prepared for. It would be a shame if you were to reject the crown.", the prime minister said.

"What else would be a shame, is to tear him away from his family."
"Oh, you mean the little whore and the bastard by his side?", the prime minister asked.

"My Mama is not a whore.", Timothy said, punching the prime minister.

I wasn't going to say it out loud, but I was proud of him. He was right. His mother was no whore. It was all me. I had been at fault here. Not her. She only played a little part in it.

"Your son could go to jail."
"I could reject the crown."
"What do you want?"
"For you to accept my family, all parts of it. And me, for the way I am."

"You are a weak boy. Just like your mother. You started revolting against me just because you thought the people deserved freedom. You are a fool. France needs a monarch. A strong, healthy monarch.", my father asserted.

"Don't talk about Mama.", I said, with a slight voice crack.

"I will become she is the reason you are what you have become."
"I'd rather be like Mama, than you any day. You have taken everything from me. My life spirit, my happiness. I will not let you take my family.", I declared, coming closer and closer.

"I am a man, I know about your manly desires."
"I don't even know what you are talking about. She's the woman I truly love. I will marry her. If you like it or not."

"Marrying. You are married. Princess Maria is your wife."
"She's a witch."
"Just like your mother.", he said.

Tears escaped my eyes but I would not show him how I truly felt. He could knock me down all he wanted, criticize me as much as he wanted. But one word about Annelise or my mother, and I would break your face.

Annelise had her arm locked with mine. Timothy stood by my side. They were my family.

"My mother was not a witch. She did what I should've done a long time ago: leave this prison you call a palace. She did everything right. And now, I will follow in her footsteps. You can be with me or against me. Choose one.", I let out.

We walked out of the palace, never looking back. He was just the person that I used to look up to, but now, he was a wrinkled old man, who had no interest in the future. I saw it with my own eyes. The future is bright and the people are happy.

But not under his reign. They suffer and I will end their sufferings, once and for all.
