The whole restaurant was frozen to zero degrees. Time stood still and nothing moved. In the middle of this space, was a heated battle going on.
A staredown between life and death. After Yana's words faded, Luka raised his head and with a cold expression watched her.
Yet Yana was unfazed, she didn't care if he had a mean face or an aloof personality.
All she wanted was to get closer to him and then make him choke out the magical words of, 'Yes, I'd like to be your research partner' while she made him kneel in front of her for actually putting a lot of effort chasing after him.
She's never even put in so much work for her studies!
"Are you also deaf?" Yana's smile grew wider, she was by no means a mean person but Luka really tugged on her nerves, "If you wish to order please use your mouth as I'm afraid you won't be able to open it when our delicious meal is set in front of you, dear guest."
It was a good thing that the Luka's table was in the far back next to the windows and no one was around them. Luka stared at her for a second longer before getting up and walked to the manager.
The manager bowed and quickly set Luka at another waiter's table. Yana's veins finally exploded.
As Yana strode to the bar where the manager was again, Linda hurried to them trying to hold her laughter back.
"This is the first time I've seen you piss off a customer. A really handsome one, I have to say. Yana what did you do?"
"Nothing!" Yana also wanted to know. Was she being too casual, too friendly or too aggressive? Could his little poor cold heart not even be able to take a few passive-aggressive insults?
"Manager, please let me serve him!" Yana was bent on making Luka acknowledge her.
"I'm sorry but he said you've bothered him."
These words utterly destroyed Yana. He spoke. He actually spoke. But kept ignoring her.
"That-"
"Yana," the manager pointed at her area, "Go and take care of your customers."
"Alright," the fume dissipated from Yana's hand and she headed back to take care of her guests.
But once the manager was gone to check the wares, Yana went to the kitchen and ambushed the other waiter.
"Is that for table 37? Let me bring it, ok?" the waiter was confused but agreed.
"Thanks," with that Yana dashed out of the kitchen and perfect like a true professional set it in front of Luka while a menacing grin was plastered on her face, "You thought you could escape me?"
Luka once again looked into the face of the devil and inauspiciously sweatdropped.
But then he ignored Yana again by taking his cutlery to eat.
"Hey, don't just ignore me! I saw you talking to my manager! What did I do? Just talk to me," at this point, Yana was almost whining but remembered to conduct herself.
"Yana!" her manager caught her and ran up to her sensing danger. Yana hissed, "Just you wait, I'll make yo-"
"Yana," the manager gave Yana and Luka a wide smile while his pressure on Yana intensified, "I apologise for my staff, I won't let her bother you again."
"But-"
"Off you got to your area or else," the manager lowered his voice and whispered, "There won't be food for you to take home."
Yana dramatically gasped and sped off to take care of her money and food-bringing customers while Luka looked after her before he gave his attention to his food again.
The surrounding guests were amazed by the dignified and way too good-looking guy but Luka built invisible walls around him to shield himself from those stares.
"Yana, I know you're at that age to want a boyfriend but it's not right to harass the customer like this," the manager entered the break room after the restaurant closed for a lunch break.
"I don't see him that way!"
"Sure," Linda grinned, "He's very good-looking, most celebrities can't even match him."
"But I can," the manager wiggled his eyebrows while Yana and Linda blankly stared at him before ignoring him.
"Like I said, it's not like that. We go to the same uni and I need him for a project but he keeps ignoring me!"
"A tough nut," the manager said, lighting a cigarette.
"Did he say anything else?" Yana wanted to know if Luka might have said something about her.
"No, lad just ate and then paid. I prefer customers like that."
"I like fun and kind ones, he's not reacting at all," Yana sighed and pitifully shovelled the food into her mouth.
"Manager, go out to smoke, you're poisoning our food," Linda held her nose and waved the manager away.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll be back and Yana don't go off harassing our customers like that!"
"I already said-" the door closed before Yana could justify herself.
The rest of the workday passed and exhausted Yana fell on her bed.
The next day came and went and it was Monday again.
Time for Yana to set her plan into action for getting Luka to finally say a damn word.
She would not rest until he agreed!
On her way to uni and lecture hall, Yana didn't see Luka at all and the whole first lecture went on with Yana frigidly shifting her position on her chair.
The time ticked by so slowly and it was finally lunchtime.
"Hey, Yana," Mia came and they headed to the cafeteria. Yana checked her bag and made sure the lunchbox with homemade food was still there.
"Do you also have a feeling today's a good day?" Yana smiled while Mia gave her a weird look.
"Boring. Even the prof almost fell asleep," Mia was honest for once.
"Wow, didn't know a study rat like you'd-"
"Don't call me that, goodness, you make me want to puke. A cat's better."
"Whatever," Yana made her way over to the microwaves.
"What you doing?" for the first time Mia saw Yana pull out a box to heat up.
The cafeteria had microwaves for students to heat up their food.
Most of the time when the cafeteria was open, no one used it. Only maybe on the weekends when the students came to study in the library.
"Heating up my food," Yana watched the timer.
"I can see that, no way you cooked it yourself?"
"What are you being shocked for? I'm a good cook."
"No way," Mia rubbed more salt into Yana's wounds.
"Damn lemme try."
"No," Yana had to hold her hands against the microwave so Mia wouldn't touch it with her self-proclaimed paws.
"It's not for you, I'll cook for you sometime else."
Seeing how avert Yana was, Mia gave up, "Tsk, I'll get some food, you can eat your-"
The rest Yana didn't hear as she excitedly looked through the cafeteria.
A homemade dish was more genuine than buying something. With this Luka could see how serious she was. Wait, Yana just realised she was acting like she had a crush on him. No way. Ever.
However, Yana was disappointed to see Luka was nowhere to be found. Determined to give him the food before it was cold, she set out for the campus.
After she reached the left-wing of the main building, she spotted him. Only to see that two other guys were around him. Were they bullying him?
