The day off

With a puffy face and red cheeks, Yana tiredly splashed the running water on her face. One look into the mirror revealed the sleepless night she had. After Yana successfully avoided Luka, endless thoughts ran through her head.

Maybe she should, after all, make up with him. He seemed to be sincere and Yana didn't want to sacrifice their friendship but his words constantly rang in her hand and it made it hard for Yana to come to a decision.

Perhaps she should just give in. She was acting too stubborn and stupid at this point.

Another 12 hours shift was waiting for her and she could feel the dread slowly eating her alive. Usually, she liked work, it was fun and she had a great time with the customers, especially the staff food was the highlight, but now she was tired and afraid that Luka would show up again.

Yana walked back to her room to change her clothes when her phone suddenly rang, she immediately picked it up, not even bothering to look at who it was.

"Yana?" a raspy voice appeared followed by a long exhale. It was her manager.

"Yes?" Yana got her hopes up.

"Sorry but is it ok if you change shifts? Michael wants to come in today and I need him to take care of the wares anyways, so it's easier."

"Sure, so I don't have to come to work?" Yana couldn't hide the slight joy that escaped her. Her manager immediately picked it up.

"Look at you being happy, you don't need to see my face huh?"

"That's not it, your face's the only reason why I love working," Yana was amused by her manager's carefree attitude. She was lucky to have a nice boss, she's heard the horror stories of her friends' boss.

"Alright, you saved yourself last minute. I'm going to perfect my face more, enjoy your day off."

"Yes, sir!" Yana lightly giggled before hanging up and throwing herself onto the bed.

She hasn't had a free weekend day in months. Now... was finally time to keep the promise she made to Mia a while ago.

Yana quickly dialled Mia's number, not even waiting for her to speak first, Yana excitedly said, "Guess who's generous enough to spend some time with you today?"

"Not bloody you," Mia spit back. Yana could already imagine how Mia elegantly sat in front of her makeup table with her goddess look only to spit poison at Yana.

"Sigh, I'm serious, I don't need to work today but ok if you don't wanna see me... and here I thought we could finally go shopping together, what a shame... truly a shame," Yana faked sobs before saying, "Well, I'll wish you-"

"Hold the fuck up," Mia quickly cut Yana off, "I'll be at your place in an hour, you lie to me, you end up as a mannequin for all the unbought clothes you owe me."

"Al-"

Beep. Beep.

Mia hung up before Yana could even finish her word but Yana was gracious enough to let it slide. After all, it's been a while since they've been out.

The hot summer day wouldn't be nice on Yana who hated heat. Quickly putting on some light makeup and doing her hair, Yana opted for a dark red dress with straps that hugged her figure perfectly. Reaching to her knees it enhanced her pale skin and black hair.

With a pair of short high-heels, a small bag and a gorgeous sunhat, Yana greeted Mia who whistled through her teeth, "Wow you dolled up a lot. Are we going hunting?"

"There's no worthy prey," Yana flung her hair back as much as she could with the large hat.

Mia's idea of hunting was to exploit boys, give them a bit of attention before pushing them to the sides. This was what Mia was extremely good at. Even though she was a so-called romantic.

While Yana looked elegant in her red dress, Mia opted for a longer light blue dress that made her look as innocent as a white lotus. Although Mia could pull off any style, Yana still found it funny how the usual 'rough' Mia would opt for this style.

It was as if their roles were reversed. Yana looked like the rich elegant yet arrogant villainess while Mia was the poor innocent maiden that stole everyone's heart and was secretly abused by Yana.

But it didn't matter to either Yana or Mia. No matter where they went all eyes fell on them. Yana was glad to have her hat and sunglasses to shield her face while Mia basked in the glory.

They finally arrived at the shopping centre and the cool AC was refreshing on Yana's skin that threatened to be drowned in sweat. Yana wiped herself off with a small towel when Mia said, "What do we do first?"

"Whatever you want," Yana wasn't keen on spending money, after all, she wasn't as rich as Mia was and she didn't want Mia to spend money on her. All Yana wanted was to eat from all of the stalls here.

Suddenly, Yana felt a light slap on her shoulders, "Your eyes pop out if you stare any longer at the food, you think I can't see your drool reaching the ground?"

Instinctively Yana wiped her chin but it was dry.

"Idiot," Mia had a great time and laughed out loud causing the surrounding people to turn their heads while simultaneously Yana took off her sunglasses and hat.

Her loose strands of hair fell over her delicate face and her big eyes as they looked up, revealed a pure glint which sent a tremor through everyone's hearts.

Yet these eyes only had the reflection of a single person within them mirroring her surprised expression in the other person's eyes. Yana bit her lip and a strand of hair fell over her face. Why did she have to meet him here out of all people, out of all places?
