Any better options?

A gentle smile formed on Luka's face as he said those words that didn't fit his expression. Panic rose in Yana. He did recognise her. Well, she didn't look too different than she did 5 years ago.

"I'm sorry, but do we know each other?" still, Yana returned his smile with a beautiful smile of her own but it only felt alien and cold to Luka. Yana was bent on pretending not to know him.

"I see, ditching me back then and now playing dumb, you've become even bolder," Luka amused sat in his chair. His eagle-like eyes never left her once.

"Let's get to business, Mr- '' Yana deliberately paused showing him she wasn't going to back down on this act.

"Luka, call me as you've always done. I assume I can naturally call you Yana too-"

"Of course! Not," Yana still kept her smile and pushed the paper staple back to Luka, "You can keep your stuff. We'll move out, you can have the orphanage."

At first, Yana didn't want to do that. She desperately wanted to hold onto the orphanage even if she had to fight for it, but now the buyer turned out to be Luka.

Yana didn't want to associate with him but he was keen on keeping this relationship more than just business. That was why it was best to get out of his way.

"There's no need for that. My company, M.M, only bought it for remodelling. It was sticking out like a sore thumb and I felt bad for the children, so I bought it to make it a better place to live in," Luka relaxed, moved on the chair and watched Yana's reaction.

"How generous," a sarcastic reply was thrown in his face.

She could tell what he was trying to do, putting himself up on a pedestal to show how benevolent and generous he was. It was obvious he was pointing out the difference between her and him.

Especially how he deliberately mentioned that M.M. was his company. Who on earth wouldn't know about the conglomerate that started with M.M within the last three years? Based in City M, M.M. witnessed a huge rise and was the world-leading company for real estate now.

And Luka was the CEO of it. What a terrible joke. Yana wanted to mock him but had no grounds to do so. He was a successful CEO while Yana was only orphanage caretaker.

Back then Yana viewed Luka as a friend. Even though he was cold and indifferent at first, he gradually warmed up to her, but Yana had her own goal to pursue and Luka being here and doing unfathomable actions was a thorn in her eyes.

"You can remodel it if you want. The orphanage will still move somewhere else. Keep the building and the land," Yana was about to stand up, indicating the conversation was over when Luka suddenly asked, "Why did you drop out? You could've become successful anywhere. Weren't you so well-liked back then? But helping people like this... does suit you, huh?"

"Goodness, you sound so bitter," Yana mocked and instantly realised that the moment Luka saw her he wanted to make her life harder.

Was it because of the one time she stood him up? In the first place, wasn't Luka the one who said she was an eyesore and annoying?

"But I guess you've been pretty happy without me, after all, there's no annoying Yana around you," Yana glanced at Luka before moving to the door.

"So you now admit knowing me?" Luka's voice appeared behind her.

Dammit, Yana fell into his trap. She turned around only to see his smirk while he elegantly sat on the chair and basked in his small victory.

This bastard.

"I think you got the wrong idea, back then-"

"Shut up."

Luka started but Yana cut him off. She didn't want to hear it. It all didn't matter, the events that happened back then were blurry and long became a distant memory. Who cared about it now? Only a bitter and petty person like him would.

Seeing her reaction, Luka sighed. For now, he had to drop this topic. It seemed like Yana misunderstood. Well, he still didn't apologise, but even if he did it now, it'd come over as unnatural and insincere. Yana wouldn't buy it.

He had to avoid this landmine and step on another, "You don't make much right? I've seen the state of the orphanage, not enough funding, barely living on the edge and the director gave up on you."

"Isn't it because you bought it?"

"He would've done this as well if someone else reached out a hand."

Yana couldn't refute it because it was true.

"Stop your stupid idea and just stay. Accept my help. You won't find a new place nor have the money for it."

Ture. True. True.

It was all true but Yana didn't like the way he said it. Luka came out of nowhere, threatened her situation to turn for the worse and messed up almost everything for her. She couldn't accept him nor yield.

"If you work for me, I'll give you ten times the salary. Think about it, it's a good deal. The orphanage will be remodelled. I'll leave it alone, instead, you become the director and work for me," Luka folded his legs over each other and looked like a dominating emperor. As if everything was under his control, as if every word of his was absolute.

"Why are you doing this?" Yana narrowed her eyes. These terms were too favourable for her, except the part where she had to work for him.

"I'm a good person."

"Like fuck you are."

"You've become nasty."

"And you became more of a bastard."

Luka sighed, he knew what Yana thought. It seemed like there were only losses for him but actually, there was a huge win. And that huge win was standing in front of him.

If Yana worked for him, he could see her again. Probably every day if he had time.

"Hah, I get it. It's revenge, right? You want to make me your slave so you can vent out your petty frustrations," Yana mockingly looked at him but in Luka's eyes, she was endearing.

He rose out of his chair and slowly approached her standing next to the table, until he towered over her, given her no room to escape. With a gentle movement, he pushed a strand of hair out of her face.

Fine, if she wanted this narrative, he'd create it for her, "If I say that's right, what will you do?"
