The loud music and strong smell of alcohol hit me as soon as I walk back out into the party, almost making me want to go back into the bathroom and hide for the rest of the night, but I have to find Jayden. I wonder if he's even still here. If he is, there's no way he's partying. I walk past the living area and into the kitchen but all I find is a very drunk Shana hanging off some tall guy who seems to be loving every second of it. As soon as she spots me her eyes light up.
"Skye!" she squeals, rushing over to me so fast that she stumbles and I have to steady her.
She giggles and pulls me over to the group of guys she was talking to before. I don't have time for this.
"Boys, this is Skye," she hugs me around my shoulders so that I can barely move.
4 big-armed, small-brained guys look me up and down almost in sync and I want to throw up. I pull my best fake smile, the kind that doesn't reach my eyes at all, and attempt to subtly pull myself free from my best friend's surprisingly strong grip.
"We're about to do tequila shots," Shana announces and I cringe at the memory of the liquid Shana gave me and the burn it left in my throat.
She giggles at my reaction, "Skye loves tequila."
I'm handed a shot glass and a slice of lime by a blonde boy who's head seems way too small in proportion to his large shoulders and it's too late to back out.
"Shana's first," the same boy says and the rest of his friends grunt in agreement.
I almost don't want to leave my best friend here with them, but I know she can take care of herself. I watch as Shana licks the back of her hand and sprinkles salt onto the wet spot created. She grins widely at the boys and then me before licking the salt, downing her shot and biting the lime. All of the boys cheer when she raises both her hands in victory and I can't help but laugh at her.
"You're up babe," a dark haired boy with bloodshot eyes says to me, handing me the salt.
I feel nauseous at the word babe but swallow it down before licking the back of my hand. The sooner I do this, the sooner I can get out of here. I exhale before licking the salt, throwing back the shot and biting the lime. The alcohol burns my throat once again but I ignore it this time, getting my buzz back slightly. I imitate Shana in her victory pose and laugh at the cheers I receive.
The next few boys take their shots and it comes back to Shana. I'm about ready to do another shot when I remember why I'm here. Jayden. I pull Shana's arm from my shoulders so that I am free once again.
"I'm going to find someone, don't do too many while I'm gone, okay?" I try to advise my best friend, although I know she's not listening.
Shana nods at me absentmindedly before downing her second shot. I shoot the four boys a warning look, but realise how unintimidating I must be and turn around to continue my search.
I decide to look outside. I know that's where I would go.
