"Jayden's pretty cute," Dani mumbles, her eyes gazing towards our table which Jayden is holding for us again, as we stand in the lunch line.

I glance towards her before following her gaze to the table. Jayden is clearly pretending to text someone, occasionally looking up to check on us, and I laugh quietly to myself, forgetting about Dani until I turn back to meet her expectant eyes.

"Oh, I mean, sure," I nod at her, brushing off her comment before turning away and moving forward with the line.

"He's got that... sexy, lost puppy thing going on, you know?" Dani sighs in admiration, following me, and I furrow my eyebrows in confusion.

"Not really," I say without looking at her, grabbing my tray of food.

"You're telling me you don't want a piece of that?" she asks as we turn towards the table to see Jayden waving towards us holding his sandwich, a smudge of mayo covering his lower lip.

"As hard as it may be to believe, yes," I say with confidence as we make our way to the table and sit down, Dani giving Jayden a cheeky grin.

He smiles back initially, before frowning in confusion at the funny look on her face. "What?"

Dani picks up a napkin from her lunch tray and brings it to Jayden's lip, wiping away the mayo whilst giggling innocently. I resist the urge to gag. She glances to me playfully and I frown back at her.

"Uh, thanks," Jayden wipes at his lip with his hand, clearly uncomfortable.

"Okay, so I've decided that we're going to do something fun tonight," Dani announces and I pick up a slice of pizza and bite into it, deciding to opt out of this conversation.

"You have?" Jayden looks hesitant and I'm glad I'm not on my own for this one, unlike yesterday's party invitation.

"Yep. So, Skye, what are we doing tonight?" Dani turns to me and I frown.

"I'm thinking Chemistry homework," I take another bite of my pizza, showing my disinterest.

"Looks like it's just us then, J," Dani blinks her long eyelashes at Jayden, taking a sip of her water.

J? I visibly roll my eyes, turning my head away to hide my reaction.

"What are we doing?" Jayden asks Dani and her eyes seem to light up.

"Something crazy," she announces dramatically and Jayden nods, drinking from his water bottle.

"Well, I'm in," he decides.

Great. Is this the beginning of another Maya and Marcus? I can see it already. They'll fight and they'll leave and I'll be back to square one, sitting alone and pretending to read my Spanish textbook. I mean, I could stop it right here. I could just suck it up and go with them.
