By the time we arrive at the bus stop closest to Shana's house, the bus is empty apart from us and this one other girl from the band, Isabella, who plays the flute and lives right across the road from Shana. The three of us climb off the bus and head in the same direction in complete silence.

Isabella is one of those girls who is definitely pretty enough to be popular, but just never talks to anyone. She has long blonde hair and perfect, almond-shaped blue eyes and she's never had a zit in her life. She's beautiful, but she really keeps to herself. I hadn't even properly heard the girl talk until last year when she accidently took a shot of white rum at her mother's neighbourhood Christmas party and didn't stop talking the whole night. After that, I decided that I was fine with her never talking.

After a long and painfully silent walk, we arrive at Shana's dad's white paved driveway. I wave at Isabella with a smile as she crosses the road, before Shana and I help each other over the side fence.

I watch as Shana pulls a small key from it's usual place under the doormat, the most obvious hiding place, and unlocks the sliding door, leading me inside.

"The party's not for a few hours, so we have plenty of time," she says, taking a bag of doritos from the cupboard as I nod and follow her into the large kitchen.

"So it's a party now?" I chuckle, taking a seat at one of the fancy stools lined up alond Shana's kitchen counter.

"Did I say party? I meant-" I hold up my hand to stop her right there, giving her a knowing look, and we both laugh.

I shake my head at her and pull my phone out of my bag to check for messages. There's one, from my mother. A reply to my previous message to her.

*Okay, love you xx*

I close it without replying and place my phone on the counter, leaning in to speak to Shana, who's shoveling doritos into her mouth.

"Who's party is it, anyway?" I ask, reaching for the chips.

"Just this girl from work, Hayley. She just invited me today. Kind of late notice, but you know I suck at saying no to people." She passes me the bag of doritos and moves to the fridge, returning with two diet cokes.

"Are we going to talk about what happened on the bus today?" She asks as I take a sip of my drink, causing me to choke. I begin to cough and she giggles at me before speaking again.

"That bad, huh?" She stares at me, knowingly, before sighing dramatically and drinking a mouthful of her coke.

I take another drink of my coke to end my coughing fit before nodding. "That bad."

We both sit in silence for a few moments before the front door swings open and Shana's eyes widen as a tall blonde woman walks in, tossing a pile of shopping bags onto the living room floor. Shana's dad's new girlfriend, I assume. I've never had a chance to meet her, mainly because Mr Price seems to have a new girlfriend every week, but also because Shana always makes sure that no one is home whenever we hang out here.

The woman sighs loudly, removing her sunglasses and looking me up and down before smiling a breathtakingly beautiful, but clearly fake, smile.

"Shana, honey, you didn't tell me you were having a friend over." Her eyes dart to Shana, who looks like she could spit in the woman's face if she took a step closer.

"I don't tell you a lot of things," she shoots back, grabbing her bag and making her way up the stairs without looking back.

Something tells me she's not very nice, but my need to be polite forces me to introduce myself to the beautiful woman who stands beside me in shock, uncomfortably staring at the staircase.

"I'm Skye." I smile at the woman before swinging my bag over my shoulder, grabbing our drinks and climbing the stairs after my best friend.
