A/N : Sorry for getting all mopey and sad but now I'm a little calmer.

~Bucky Barnes~

James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes. Winter Soldier to most. But to you ? A loving and caring father. Nothing more or nothing less. You were smarter and more present at mind than all six year old's. Despite your father's protests, you had managed to get Uncle Steve to tell you about his past. And by past, you meant everything. You could never pin point why your father was STILL reluctant to touch you or hug you as freely as Uncle Steve or even Uncle Tony.

You weren't scared. You could never be scared of the loving man your father was. You knew all too well that it wasn't him. Sadly, for Bucky he was still hung up over the fact that he had killed innocent people. Nightmares were common, much to your dismay. Every time he would have a nightmare, Uncle Steve wouldn't even let you see him. You badly wanted to help your father.

Today was different. Everyone was out on their missions. You were somehow glad that this time you will be helping your dad because as much as you hated it, you knew he was going to have a nightmare. And to keep him from doing something stupid you had to step in.

"NOOOOO !!!!" you jolted awake as the ear piercing scream echoed in the halls of the empty towers.

You scrambled to your feet and ran as fast as your little feet could towards your dad's room. Without even thinking twice, you burst into his room. You scanned the room and noticed your dad curled up in a ball in the corner mumbling incoherent things in Russian.

"My Mission" was the only thing you could make out. Your eyes widened as you realized it was not your father but the Winter Soldier.

"Daddy, it's me Y/N. I am not going to hurt you" you whisper slowly but cautiously inching closer to him. In a blink of an eye he bolts straight at you. You don't flinch. You had one way, hopefully of getting him back. Slowly you began singing.

"You Are My Sunshine

My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are grey
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away"

This was more than just a lullaby to you and your dad. It was his way of communicating, that he loved you and your way of telling him you did too. You knew that this would bring your father back. You saw it. The color of his eyes return as his senses kicked in. You slowly took his hands in yours. He tried to pull them away, scared that he might hurt you but you kept your grip on his hands. You continued singing.

I'll always love you
And be there for you
I'll protect you from harm's way
'Cause I adore you
You're my dream come true
You're my beautiful sunshine

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are grey
You'll never know dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

As you sang, you slowly crept up in his lap. He didn't push you away this time. He knew that you're not afraid of him and never will be. You were his rock, his little girl.

"Are you okay ?" You asked your hazel eyes peering into his icy blue ones.

"I am, now that I have you" he whispers hugging you close to him as if his life depended on it. And maybe in a way, it did.

There was a long, much needed and rather comfortable silence before Bucky spoke up.

"Weren't you afraid ?" he asks bracing for the worst.

"Of what ?" you ask innocently

"Of me. Of me hurting you" he says rather ashamed, that he was considering his own daughter a mission.

"I knew" you say as Bucky looks at you confused. " I knew, you wouldn't hurt me daddy. You love me and I love you. You could never think about it. I know this is hard, but I wanted to help you. I don't like to see you cry. You're my hero, My daddy !" you smiled and slinged your arms around his neck, nuzzling your head in the crook of his neck.

Unnoticed by you, Bucky's eyes teared up. Never in a million years had he thought that he would be normal, let alone have a kid. Yet here he was, the light of his life, his daughter in his arms. He sure was afraid of hurting you, but hearing you talk like that made his heart swell. He knew he loved you with all his heart and now he loved you with every inch of his soul.

You were his soul, his heart. His little girl.

"I love you too doll" he whispered kissing the side of your head. You sighed contently as he picked you up and carried you to his bed. Laying you on his chest, he slept. Peacefully.

And that day forth, he rarely had nightmares, even if he did once in a while you were there. Smiling, right beside him. Holding him close. And that's all he needed.

James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes had found a purpose, a reason to live for.

You.

I am so Sorry but I honestly have zero inspiration for the nightmares headcanon for the remaining Avengers. If I have an idea in the future, I'll post it as a stand alone one shot.

Yours Truly. ✨
