Kaycee's POV

It's been about a week since the whole hungover incident and today was Ashtons and Calum's first surgery at the end of our shift. Luke had his 2 days after mine and did amazing as previously predicted. Micheal had his after Lukes and also did well. It was now a unwritten pact we would be in the gallery watching and supporting each other. I walked into the locker room more content than usual. 

" Morning!" I said opening my locker they returned saying good mornings.

" Dr. Irwin and Dr. Hood are you ready for your first surgery?" I asked

"I'm nervous," Ashton said

" Same my hand is shaking"

" Don't worry you guys are gonna do great," I said smiling giving them a side hug

" Whats with you being so happy?" luke said eating his donut

" Am I not allowed to be happy? I asked folding my arms

" You are, it's just you usually have to have a cup of coffee to even speak to us" Micheal laughed

" Yeah your not exactly a morning person" Calum laughed

"I'm just happy guys don't read into it and just appreciate it" I smiled

A half an hour later I got called to Clark's office.

" You wanted to see me?" I asked entering the room

" Yes, this is Doctor Davis he is our neurologist here" I was shocked at the man before me I was actually getting to meet the head doctor from the speciality I wanted.

" Yes, of course, Pleasure to meet you, doctor. " I shook his hand exchanging eye contact with Clark wondering what was going on.

" Dr. Evans I was told you were looking at neurology?"

" Yes sir"

" I would to you to observe and assist one of my cases if you would like that"

" Oh my god yes of course thank you for the opportunity" he nodded and led me outside

" I am assigning you to the case of Bailey Andrews," he said handing me the file

" I want labs ASAP and vitals every 3 hours"

" Yes sir," I said taking the file as he walked away.

I opened it and read it

Bailey Andrews age 21 height 5'6 weight 115 currently in treatment for..... I stopped she was in treatment for glioblastoma multiforme. It is a very aggressive brain cancer the same one my mother had. The tumor in normally in the brain but can also appear in the spinal cord in which case was what happened to Bailey. I walked slowly to her room reading her file at the same time, she was current on chemotherapy and completed 2 out of 6 doses. I had my head down and bumped into Micheal and Ashton.

" Woah there" Ashton laughed he saw my face and stopped

" Is everything okay?"

" Yeah it's just I got put on a Nero case today and the patient has the same cancer as my mom" I said putting on a sad smile. Ashton pulled me in a hug. 

" Hey this is good you can treat her" Micheal pointed out 

" Yeah your right this is a great thing" I smiled I nodded and walked into Bailey's room which happened to be right in front of us.

" Hi I'm Dr. Evans but you can call me Kaycee I'll be working on your team with Dr. Davis how are you feeling today?"

" Mild pain," she said simply

" Sorry to hear that I'm just gonna take your vitals and give you some pain medication if you would like, " I said grabbing a blood pressure cuff and getting to work.

" Who's that guy you were hugging?" she asked

" Uh" I stuttered surprised she would ask 

" A friend" 

" Come on that was totally more than a friendly hug you've got to give me something here I'm so bored" she winded making me laugh

" He really is" I said honestly

" What's his name?"

" You are really full with questions aren't you?" I said

" Like I said this place is boring," she said as I wrote down her vitals

" What's his name?"

" Ashton," I said smiling

" ooooo" she gushed and I shook my head

" How about you don't have a special person in your life," I asked changing the topic

" Yeah his name is harry styles, really cute, British"

" Oh never heard of him" I joked causing her to smile

" I've just got to take some labs and I'll leave you be" I said putting on some gloves to get her blood.
