Kaycee's POV

It's been a week since challenge day and things have gone back to normal. Clark has been nicer to us since everything happened. There were a few rumors that the chief gave her a long speech after finding out what happened.

I had actually felt bad she didn't know the lady had toxic blood after all. Ashton and I rode in together as usual and we was now doing his rounds he had gotten a trauma case and I couldn't be prouder of him. We all seemed to be advancing lately Luke got a cardio case last week, Micheal was given his first solo general surgery yesterday, Calum got a peds case. It all seemed to finally fall into place. I walked into Bailey's room checking on her before I prepped her for another treatment.

" Hello Bailey" I sang

" Hello to my favorite doctor," she said,

" How are we doing today?" I asked

" Good, just had some friends stop by"

" Oh that sounds nice I saw that Ryan boy in the hallway before" Ryan was Bailey's boyfriend who she talked about quite often. It was so cute.

" Yeah he visited me earlier he has practice. Where were you for the last week?!" she yelled expecting some juicy drama making me just roll my eyes.

" Crazy story I treated a patient who had toxic blood and she infected me the guys" I laughed it sounding absolutely absurd.

" Oh my god, I'm glad you're okay now." She smiled then thinking again before saying

"Interesting, so you and Ashton were stuck sick together for a while week?"

" Yes we cuddled a bit" I smiled blushing at the memory

" Get out! that boy likes you" she yelled

I rolled my eyes and grabbed her chart looking over everything and making a few notes on her current vitals.

" Everything looks good so, we can start treatment soon" I smiled making her groan

" Okay fine but can I at least get some ice cream? The last nurse promised me some but she strangely never came back."

" You got it"

I walked to Dr. Brown's office dropping Bailey's labs onto his desk. My eyes lingered on his wall which was covered with framed documents of awards, diplomas, and even some letters from patients.

I scanned them reading them my curiosity getting the better of me. It must feel like such an hour to touch these people's lives like that. I couldn't wait till I made an effect on someone's life,  knowing that they get to live because you were able to help them. A voice coughed and I woke up from my daydreaming

" Oh gosh Dr. Brown I'm sorry I- shouldn't have been looking at your stuff" I apologized shaking my head

" It's alright Evans. " He laughed putting down his stuff on the desk before continuing

" You know I see a younger version of myself in you, a passionate resident waiting to make a difference" he smiled

" Sit down," he told me gesturing to the chair

I sat waiting for him to speak again

" Why are you here doctor?" He asked me

" I was just dropping off Bailies charts before her chemotherapy I'm sorry I shouldn't have lost my concentration-" he cut me off

" No, I mean why did your career path take you here out of all things?" he asked

I took a breath before starting

" When I was young I lost my mother during a Craniotomy, the doctors did everything they could, and she knew going in it was risky we all did. But that's the thing doctor I know I probably can't find a cure for brain cancer but I can help make the risks in that OR less risky. The more we do surgeries and research the less risky everything becomes, the more people can go back to their families with nothing but a scar. That's why I am here sir I want to learn to save" I spoke passionately

He nodded silently for a few moments before nodding

" Okay, your boards come up soon, after you pass and residents get to choose their specialty  assignments I would like to offer you an assignment here"

I was stunned did he actually just say I could study with him.

" Yes sir! Thank you for the opportunity"

he nodded " Run along now I'm sure Clark has something for you to do"

I raced out of his office feeling unstoppable.
