Kaycee's POV
*several days later*
It was the day before all of our board exams, which meant our house was totally chaotic starbucks cups, takeout containers and random notecards filled the kitchen counter. I was about 3 cold brews and a whole bag of waffle chips in and it was only 4 in the afternoon, we had planned to sleep around 12 and wake up at 5 for a quick review before finally taking our test. I had made over 200 flashcards for us to use and all of the reading was giving me a headache.
" flashcards are done does anyone need some advil? my head is killing" I said taking off my glasses and rubbing my face
" jesus how many did you make?" Luke asked
" I stopped counting after 200, but everything we need should be on those."
I walked into the kitchen and got some advil from the counter and washing it down with my cold brew. I looked at the mess we made and sighed making it a note to clean up later.
" alright let's wake us up a little" Calum said getting up and grabbing the notecards
" everyone for themselves, I'll read out symptoms the first one to give me the right diagnosis you get a point" he continued
" cut to the point what will we win" Micheal asked
" If I beat luke can I get the bathroom whenever I want it?" I asked
" nope" Luke said shaking his head
" winner gets free starbucks and losers will run down all of their labs for a month" Ash yelled as we agreed
" now we are talking!" Micheal clapped
I grabbed a blanket and shared it with Micheal next to me as Calum got his cards ready. Everyone had coffees in their hands we had been up since 7 studying.
" okay number one for a point symptoms are difficulty moving, falling, tissue swells, bone formation in muscles..... what is it?"
" Myositis!" Micheal shouted
Calum shook his head
" Heterotropic ossification!" I guessed
" wrong"
" uh...osteosarcoma!" luke guessed
" Fibrodysplasia ossificans?" Ash guessed
" correct! one point for Ashton"
" next one swollen lymph notes, fever, body ache, pain while swallowing"
" its either infectious monouceosis or Tonsillitis" I yelled
" final answer?" Calum asked
" infectious monuceosis!"
" correct!"
I did my little happy dance and celebrated with some coffee.
We continued this game until around 11 and at the moment I had 11 points, Luke had 12, Ashton had 11 and Micheal had 11.
" alright final round what are the symptoms for wegener granulomatosis"
" lesions in the respiratory tract and grlomerulonephritis!" I shouted jumping off the couch
" correct!"
We all danced around happy at my sudden victory.
" okay, okay, death round between luke and Kaycee"
" go kaycee!" Micheal cheered getting a look from all of us
" what? we all know Luke's gonna be a asshole if we have to do his labs all month"
Ashton and Calum then began cheering for me. Micheal wasn't wrong but it was funny for me.
" now this disease can cause one of the following symptoms stunted growth, delay of teeth growth, loss of muscle, and possible wrinkles"
I stood there thinking scanning my brain I knew this, I just coudn't remember the name
" oh my god I know this come on Kaycee" I talked to myself
" Its hutchinson-gilford- " Luke started before I cut him off
" progeria" I finished disappointed I couldn't remember it
I shook his hand out of sportmanship as we all celebrated his win.
" save up people, I drink a lot of coffee"
" yay!" Ashton said sarcastically
I layed on the ground trying to rest for a second before we had to go back for a few hours. I held my hands up to Ash who helped me up kissing my forehead.
" i'm hungry" I complained
" same, I could use a break" Calum said
" want to order pizza?" Luke asked
I gave a thumbs up from my sitting position.
so there we sat, 4 exhausted residents studying 30 hours for boards silently eating pizza. I didn't have the energy to start a conversation and it seemed no one else did either.
