Kaycee's POV 

1 month later 

" Good morning happy challenge day!" I sang walking into the kitchen to see the boys

" Happy challenge day" Calum replied 

We all got into our cars me and Ashton usually took my jeep and the others went in Michael's car since it was hard to fit us all. He was reading some of his notes on the way to the car 

" Care to read out-loud I could probably use some practice," I asked him 

" Alright i'll give you symptoms and you diagnose them" 

" Wheezing, hives, swollen face-" 

" Anaphylaxis" I cut him off 

" Damn that was good" he laughed 

" what can I say i'm just that awesome" 

" Let's not get ahead ourselves here," he said making my mouth open 

" Rude," I said as we pulled into the hospital 

We met the others in the locker room and got ready for Clark to call us into her office for our assignment. 

" Interns let's go" she yelled making us get up and follow her 

" Alright so it's challenge day and you all have to work together to solve a case to the best of your ability. I can understand your excitement but we all must remember this is a real patient with a real issue that goes far beyond any game, you do not cut corners and will put the patient before a game. Understood?" 

We all nodded immediately letting her continue 

"I assign you with Patient 0078, Castro, Amelie age 47 arrived at the emergency room this morning and lost consciousness the cause is still unknown. Here is her chart good luck.  She said handing Luke the chart and walking away 

" ICU room 423 let's go," Calum said speed walking down the hallway as we followed 

" We should do blood tests and vital counts to start" I suggested 

" Alright Kay you take her blood and I'll send it down to the lab and Micheal and luke can do vitals," Ashton said as I nodded and left to get a blood kit. 

I went to the near closet grabbing a kit and heading back to her room, I did all the necessary procedures washing my hands, then putting on gloves cleaning her arm, and placing a band on her upper arm before pricking her vein being careful not to mess anything up. I put a bandaid on the spot and placed the cover on the vile noticing strange small-looking particles in her blood. 

" What the hell?" I said causing the boys to look at me 

" What is that," I asked Ashton showing him the vile 

He took it from the hand examining it questionably. Calum noticed our confusion and walked over to see it. 

"I've never seen anything like that before" Calum stepped it 

" Let's just send it to the lab and see what they say," Ashton said unsure of what to do. 

I sealed it and gave it to Ashton as Micheal and Luke set up heart monitors writing down all her vitals to keep her chart updated. I watched them set everything up while I noticed I felt off. I was a bit dizzy and hot but I brushed it off thinking it was probably from nervousness and dehydration. 

" You okay Kaycee?" Calum asked me and I nodded 

" Yeah I'm good" I smiled to show him I was okay 

I sat on the nearby chair giving myself a second to get rid of the way I was feeling. Once they set up everything they sat next to me as we waited for Ashton. 

" Her vitals are weird her heart rhythm is nothing like I've ever seen before, hopefully, labs should give us some more information," Luke said as we agreed. 

While waiting for Ashton everything seemed to be getting worse my hands began to shake and I was getting scared something was wrong. I knew I should tell the guys but I didn't want to mess up our chances of winning or possibly getting the attention of the department heads. Ashton came running through the door with Clark behind him 

" The labs came back inconclusive I told Clark," he said 

" Evans take more blood"

Her request made me hesitate, I could feel the room going sideways.  I nodded and got up slowly making the guys exchange looks they knew something was wrong. I grabbed the needle trying to stop my hands from shaking I managed to fill up the tube with the women's blood the same particles appeared as last time, it even gave off a very chemical smell that I had not noticed before. 

" I have never seen anything like this," she said looking at the tube I was holding I put it in a sealed container so she could look further. I held onto the end of the bed for support from falling over as it felt harder to breathe. I stopped listening to the others and let my mind raced as I tried to diagnose myself. The door closed pulling me out of my own head, Clark had left running to get the chief and Ashton walked towards me.

" Kay what's wrong you all pale," he said basically holding me up as the others stood up 

" I-I don't know my hands are shaking, I feel dizzy since I took her blood..." I said looking at the women 

" What is going on" Luke panicked 

" Ash I don't feel good," I said as he held me up 

" i'll get Clark" Luke ran out the door 

I felt the urge to close my eyes as my body gave out. 

" Hey! Kay, stay with me" Ashton said bringing my body close to his but I couldn't and I watched everything turn to black. 

Ashton's POV 

She passed out into my arms right there 

" oh my god, Kaycee!" Micheal said as I held her up 

" Hhat the hell," Calum said 

I carried her into the hallway and placed her on a nearby gurney as Luke ran back with Clark and the chief behind him. 

" I don't know what happened s-she just collapsed in my arms" I panicked 

They rolled her into a room set up monitors trying to figure out what was wrong. 

" She's having Apnea!" Clark yelled placing a mask over her face as we all watched them work. I looked at the guys speechless I just wanted her to be okay, I couldn't live with myself if I never got to say what I was really thinking. She had to be okay. I couldn't do this without her 

" Guys..guys..!" luke said getting our attention he had his hands out in front of him them visibly shaking like Kay's was 

" What is going on" I wondered 

" Don't pass out on us I'm getting Clark, sit down!" Calum said running into the room I made luke sit on a nearby bed 

" Is Hemmings alright?" Clark asked 

" His hands are shaking like kay's" I answered 

She ran to the closet next to us grabbing a box of surgical masks and put one on herself. 

" We have no idea what's causing this at the moment Evan's is stable for now Hemmings get into the bed next to Evans I want to check you out. Whatever this is must be contagious" 

It just kept getting worse. 

" All of you in there 2/5 of you are showing symptoms the rest of you could have been affected by whatever this is"
