elina saw hiccup's face turn ashen white. "they don't stand a chance," hiccup whispered.

"only a dragon can destroy a queen. no viking can."

elina watched as hiccup's face turn into disappointment. "but why does it matter? i'm just gonna mess things up again. besides, there's only two of us. we can't do anything."

elina looked at hiccup, intensity burning in her gaze. green met brown.

"it's better to do something than do nothing." and as elina looked down, she saw the people from hiccup's training at the arena, and an idea emerged in her head. it seemed at the same time, hiccup also realized what she was thinking. 

"let's do something crazy." hiccup's words made elina smile. then, she steered toothless downwards, nearly dive-bombing onto the ground (but she wasn't called a dragon rider for nothing). 

elina heard chameleon following her sharp dive as well, leading to hiccup shrieking in shock as he got sudden whiplash from the speed. "wait up!" hiccup asked (half-screamed). the monstrous nightmare landed next to elina, trotting after her.

"to meet your friends, of course." elina jumped off toothless as hiccup followed after her, slightly woozy. the words then registered in his head. 

"wait, what? shouldn't you let me —"

but elina had already reached the 5 teens, and all of them had varying expressions.

astrid was livid, her cheeks burning bright red. tuffnut and ruffnut stared in her at awe (clearly having seen the fight she had with stoick), whispering to each other. fishlegs looked at her disapprovingly, but he looked at the monstrous nightmare in fear. snotlout had his arms crossed in front of him, checking her out. hiccup appeared right behind her, making the 5 yell, "you!" at the same time.

"you aren't dead?" fishlegs said, unable to mask the curiosity in his voice. elina shook her head, already expecting the question (stoick was probably too much of a wimp to say that his actions had caused her to run away).

"do i look like i'm dead?" elina asked in response, making fishlegs cheeks flush in embarrassment. astrid stalked up to elina, and she recognized her as the girl who had told everyone about the dragon's nest.

"you filthy witch," astrid hissed, and suddenly, elina found astrid on top of her, holding a knife to her throat. elina heard dramatic gasps coming from behind her, and hiccup's protests as he tried (and failed) to peel astrid off her.

elina could feel droplets of blood from how hard astrid was pressing the knife into her skin for. all of a sudden, hiccup was shoved to the ground by astrid, and elina felt a surge of anger at hearing hiccup's pained grunt.

thinking quickly, elina kneed astrid in the stomach, causing her to lose her grip on the knife as it flew to the ground. then, as astrid recovered from the pain, elina flipped astrid around and pinned her to the ground, and bent her leg in a position where if she moved at all, she would feel immense pressure that would cause her to break her bones.

and just for the fact that she gave away the dragon's nest location (how did she even find it?), elina made a bruise on astrid's arm. then, she got off.

snotlout wolf-whistled as the twins clapped for her, congratulating for her winning in the fight. astrid massaged her throat angrily, still glaring daggers at elina (but elina registered the small amount of respect in astrid's eye that she had for her).

she helped hiccup up from the ground, and the two of them stood side by side. hiccup explained their plan as elina went over to survey the dragons. astrid was the only one who considered the idea as the others all protested.

"if you want to get eaten, sure," fishlegs deadpanned.

"you were wise to seek help from the world's deadliest weapon. me." 

"uh..."

"i love this plan!"

"i didn't —"

"you're crazy!" ruffnut wriggled her eyebrows. she continued suggestively. "i like that..." 

hearing the words, elina scowled and broke the chain in half with one pull.

the zippleback growled in surprise. 

"you're really strong!" the zippleback exclaimed. elina laughed sarcastically.

"thanks."

"so? what is the plan?"

well, at least someone was asking the right questions.

elina guided the monstrous nightmare towards snotlout, and she heard him whimper. elina awkwardly held snotlout's hand (she heard a... scoff coming from hiccup?), guiding him to touch the monstrous nightmare.

"ah! what are you doing!" snotlout screamed as he met the gaze of the nightmare. but snotlout stayed (mostly out of pride). finally, snotlout calmed down.

when she knew that snotlout wouldn't remove his hand, elina quickly removed her grip. hiccup seemed relieved for some reason, and elina left to bring the deadly nadder out. she was able to smooth down the nadder's tail-spikes as hiccup walked in as well, immediately brightening when he saw her.

"hey. should i get the zippleback?"

"yeah," elina smiled. "you go do that. i'll just bring this little guy," the nadder purred as she scratched her chin, "to astrid."

hiccup had an uncomfortable expression on his face. "yeah... astrid. yep. uh, she didn't seem like to like you a lot, did she?"

elina laughed. "no, probably not."

the two gave each other a small smile before they were brought back to the severity of the situation again. elina led the nadder out and did the same with astrid like she did snotlout, except astrid swattered her hand away. 

(eventually, though, she did need elina's help.)

after elina's coaxing to the dragons and the humans, they finally bonded. and as the others flew away, elina realized that this could very much be the last time she would see hiccup.

taking a deep breath, elina stood closer to hiccup, and their lips clashed. it was like an explosion had erupted, like a bomb had gone off as their hearts seared with painful fire. she had to stand on her toes to reach hiccup, but their height difference didn't really matter. all that was in their heads was of each other, and after who knows how long, elina finally pulled away breathlessly.

hiccup had a dazed smile on his face. elina gave him a playful shove.

and something between them seemed to change as they realized they just did what they did. embarrassed, elina got on chameleon's back, ignoring her teasing as hiccup climbed on toothless's back as well.

without any other words exchanged between them, they quickly caught up with the others. they all followed hiccup. chameleon blinked at elina, a teasing glint in her eye.

"finally!" she exclaimed. elina rolled her eyes, a dreamy grin on her face.

"yeah," elina sighed, but was brought back to the severity of the situation. she didn't even know if they were going to meet again after this. 

as if chameleon knew what she was thinking, she told elina, "don't push him away. the boy will be heartbroken."

but elina only shook her head.

"he probably doesn't like me. he likes astrid, anyways. have you seen the way he looks at her?"

chameleon stopped herself from saying, but have you seen the way he looks at you?
