hiccup and elina sat next to each other as chameleon gulped down the last piece of her fish. toothless was being, as elina put it, 'tormented' by the baby dragons. "well, ellie, we can't just wait for drago to attack here. we've gotta find him first."
all of a sudden, hiccup felt something grab his mouth. elina immediately pulled out her axe (okay, hiccup was concerned; where did she get all her weapons from?) and aimed it at the person who'd grabbed hiccup. if it wasn't for their fast reflexes, stoick probably would've died.
"oops," elina muttered, but hiccup just turned to his father.
"are you kidding me?" hiccup asked. "how did you even get in here?"
"the same way we're getting you — both of you — out." stoick grunted. "toothless, come."
hiccup got dragged along by his father. "wait — wait, dad, there's something — you need to know."
"yeah, yeah, tell me along the way." elina looked at hiccup, a form of frustration flickering in her eyes that quickly disappeared as chameleon nudged her.
hiccup protested, "well, this isn't an on-the-way kind of update, actually."
"i've heard enough." stoick growled.
"this is more of an, well, earth-shattering development variety," hiccup made sure to not slip as he passed by the rocks.
"yeah, just add it to the pile," his father squeezed through the ledge as hiccup just walked through it with no difficulty at all.
"yeah i, uh, unlike most surprises i spring on you, this one you'll like, i — i promise. you just have to handle it delicately. so..." hiccup put a hand on his father's shoulder as his dad paused. gobber stood in front of them in shock.
"uh... you might want to take this one." he pat stoick on the shoulder as elina leaned against the boulder, but undeniably eavesdropping. hiccup awkwardly smiled at gobber. his father took out a sword, and hiccup winced. "oh, uh... dad? could you put the, uh, sword away, please?"
stoick suddenly gasped, and hiccup felt like his words were pointless as his father's sword dropped from his hands anyways. his mother stood there next to the icicles as his father stared at her like she was a ghost, and elina whispered to him, "this is exactly how you looked when i came back."
looking at the (almost) comical look on his father's face, hiccup felt a faint blush rise to his cheeks at how stupid he must've looked. but the two teens spied on hiccup's parents reuniting. there was a moment of silence between the two, and hiccup swallowed.
hiccup licked his lips, fidgeting with the side of his armor. elina just didn't look at either of them, unsuccessfully trying to distract herself from the awkwardness by staying with chameleon and toothless.
"i know what you're gonna say, stoick," valka said. her eyes narrowed as if she was about to cry. "how could i have done this?" she breathed out. "stayed away all of these years, and why didn't i come back to you? to our son?"
hiccup looked at his mother's vulnerability, and saw his dad's gaping face. gobber just made a face at his mother's monologue.
he decided that he didn't really want to partake in their drama, either, but just like elina, he couldn't help but listen. god, i'm such a nosy prick, he thought to himself.
"well... what sign did i have that you could change, stoick? that anyone on berk could? i pleaded so many times to stop the fighting, to find another answer," his mother's voice became more passionate, "but did any of you listen?" his father walked closer to his mother, and hiccup winced.
gobber seemed to feel the same way about it, because he just muttered, "this is why i never got married. this, and... one other reason. speaking of, are ya' two getting married?" gobber questioned, and hiccup choked on thin air.
"not the time, gobber," elina muttered, but she didn't look at hiccup in the eye as she said it.
his mother continued. "i know that i left you to raise hiccup alone, but i thought he'd be better off without me," his father took off his helmet, and he neared valka even more. elina's face grew more and more with pain and embarrassment, before she ducked behind hiccup and whispered, "i can't look, hiccup."
"and i was wrong, i see that now, but..." she nervously backed up against the icicles, on the verge of tears. "oh, stop being so stoic, stoick." hiccup heard a wheeze coming from elina. "go on, shout, scream, say something!"
stoick touched valka's cheek, and both hiccup and elina looked at each other. "are we really that cheesy all the time?" hiccup whispered to elina, and elina just shrugged.
"i hope not, because the sexual tension here is unbearable. oh my gods, are they going to start making out?" hiccup nearly choked again.
"don't ever mention my parents... having sexual intercourse or any sort of lovey-dovey thing ever in front of my face ever again, ellie." hiccup said, also dying from second-hand embarrassment, making elina's ears turn red.
his father was also on the verge of tears. "you're as beautiful as the day i lost you."
valka sighed quietly, still looking at stoick. a silent tear crept down valka's cheek as the two kissed, making elina squeak of excitement from behind hiccup.
the dragons murmured, stepping away. hiccup found a smile rising to his face as his parents were finally reunited (despite all the previous awkwardness before their kiss.)
after settling down to eat, hiccup and elina prepared the meal for mostly two reasons. first of all, they wanted their parents to have a chance to talk; second of all, hiccup personally knew that stoick nearly burnt gobber's hut down when he tried to cook, and after elina confirming that valka couldn't cook to save her life, they both mutually agreed to just make the food for the five of them.
"mom, you'd never even recognize it. where we used to make weapons, we now build saddles, wing slings — we even fix dragon teeth." hiccup said excitedly.
elina chimed in. "you wouldn't believe how much everything's changed, valka."
"your son's changed berk for the better. i think we did well with this one, val." elina immediately made a disgusted face and hiccup knew her mind immediately flew towards the gutter. hiccup nudged elina, making her exclaim, "hey, i can't stop my mind from thinking!"
"thanks, dad," hiccup said instead, ignoring elina. valka dropped some of the fish, making valka admit, "i'm... a little bit out of practice."
"i didn't marry you because of your cooking," stoick said.
gobber rolled his eyes. "i hope not, her meatballs could kill more beasts than a battle axe. i've still got a few knocking around in here." elina handed him a dish and gobber tasted it, grinning. he used his hook to point to the plate. "now this is what you call food!"
elina smiled as she looked at her new-found family (apart from the rest of their gang, of course. where were they, anyways?)
